Black screen when using switch user or logout

There seems to be a huge isse with the switch user or logout functionality. When I use switch user and select “start new session” all I get is a black screen. The same happens when I use logout. I can logon on a console and kill sddm, then a new logon screen appears but of course that’s no solution for a multi-user system. When I logon using a console with a second user and use startx it works but then the first user only gets a black screen when switching back to his screen.

I read that some got black screens AFTER logon but I don’t even get a logon screen.

Please read this:

Especially the Linux has multiple kernels section, then try an LTS kernel and hopefully the problem will go away “automagically”.

:crossed_fingers:

if not,

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and press the three dots below your post and press the :pencil2: to give us more information so we can see what’s really going on.
Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.

:+1:

P.S. If you want to notify me that you did provide this information, please  this message and I’ll come back and have another look.

I’ve provided the information you requested. I also did try the LTS kernel before posting but it makes no difference at all.

You need someone with more AMD experience than me, so that’s why I added #amdgpu to your tags…

:crossed_fingers:

Thanks. Maybe it’s important that it happens in Performance and Power Saving mode.

This may help

Unfortunately not. I already tried setting ReuseSession=true

Update: The behaviour on logout is not consistent. Sometimes I just get a black screen, sometimes the login screen show. On switch user it’s still black screen all the time.
