Black screen when booting up no matter what

I’m using a Laptop With Linux laptop. Every time I boot into the Manjaro system that’s installed on my machine, it shows the splash screen for my laptop manufacturer, then briefly displays a graphical login screen along with a mouse cursor, and then goes pitch black. Switching to the TTY using the keyboard doesn’t work – the screen stays black no matter what. The problem started yesterday (when I first seriously started using this laptop), and at some point went away, but then it came back.

I use KDE as my Desktop Environment, but booting without X doesn’t fix the problem. It briefly shows a text login prompt and then goes black.

Booting from a USB works.

I’ve attempted to synchronise Pacman’s mirrors and packages using manjaro-chroot, but the system is fully up-to-date, so that can’t be the issue.

I have tried updating the kernel from 5.13 to 5.15, but it doesn’t fix it.

The laptop model is a CLEVO NS50MU 15.6-inch Linux ultrabook by Laptop With Linux. There’s a sticker which says it uses an Intel Iris Xe graphics card.

Processor: i5-1135G7

Memory: 16GB DDR4 @ 32000 MHz CL22

[EDIT] Now GRUB freezes while I’m using it.

[EDIT] I’m about to reformat the drive because I need this laptop working soon. If this fixes the problem, then I don’t think there’s any point in keeping this topic open.

If you haven’t reformatted yet, please proceed. If you did and everything works now, please let us know.

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and press the three dots below your post and press the :pencil2: to give us more information so we can see what’s really going on.
Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.

:+1:

P.S. If you want to notify me that you did provide this information, please  this message and I’ll come back and have another look.
P.P.S. If you enter a bit more details in your profile, we can also see which Desktop Environment you’re using, which exact CPU/GPU or Kernel, … you have without typing it every time

Reinstalling the system fixed the problem. Would’ve been nice to not have to do that – because it might happen again – but oh well.
