Back-lit keyboard in System76 laptop works only on initial boot

Not sure if I have the right category. I didn’t see one that dealt with hardware.

I’ve have a System76 Pangolin that has a back-lit keyboard. The back lighting cycles through all the colors on startup during system check and works on boot (one color, the first one, which is blue). If I close the lid, the laptop sleeps and back light does not turn back on. To get the back-lighting to work again I have to shut down and restart. A reboot will not get the back-lit keyboard to light up.

After a lot of research, I had this working fine in Arch, including using the default assigned keys on the num pad to change color and intensity but I’ve not figured out how to get it to running in Manjaro yet. All other function keys work fine out of the box.

*I did find this post by someone with a similar problem on a different System76 laptop. I’m wondering if their fix would work for me. Here is a link to their fix: Keyboard Backlight Not Working With FN Keys on System76 Serval WS - #38 by Nexishunter

My OEM of the Pangolin is Clevo Model Number: NL50NU

Here is a link to the System 76 stats for this model:

Grateful for any help,

Do you have any System76 packages installed? Most are maintained by me in the AUR.

I suggest the following:

  • system76-driver
  • system76-dkms-git
  • firmware-manager

Funny you should mention that. I did on Arch, but forgot to add them here. I’ll add them now. Thank you Yochanan

Such a simple fix. Very grateful for your help and the time you put into writing those packages!
