Audio issue: "No Input Device" (microphone)

Hello Manjaro Community,
I need your help to troubleshoot my current issue about the audio input.
I am somewhat reopening this topic:
Audio Issues (Microphone not working)

I have noticed this issue only yesterday. I am not sure when this problem could have possibly arisen the first time, but I may suppose after an update maybe.
I am using the same distro and configuration since long time, and so far I never had a similar issue.

Specifically, the system do not recognize anymore the INPUT AUDIO/SOUND. The output audio seems to work well, no issues here, with the internal speaker, with bluetooth devices, or HDMI devices connected.

The problem is that my internal microphone is not getting recognized anymore. In the setting panel I see “No Input Device”

Here a screenshot of what the Setting panel shows:

Here some possible helpful commands outputs:

I am lost.

Side_Note:
I do also see that on the keyboard my “disable-microphone” via hardware is enable, which means that the microphone should be disable, but I cannot restore the function with Fn+F4 … no idea why! but it is definitely related since it was working before.

I am thankful for anyone that will help me to get out from this digital mute state.

Thank you in advance!

After launching that command I can see the change at runtime but no change in the actual setting (microphone still down) (I did not reboot yet)

Edit:
Quick updates:

  1. Rebooted → no changes
  2. I have run a live Manjaro distro (via USB stick), the microphone is recognized immediately, and the Function key on the keyboard works with no problem ON/OFF.
So it must be definitely a configuration issue on this runtime.
  3. I noticed that in the live distro there is only pipewire installed and not pulseaudio, when I tried to install pulseaudio the installation broke because of conflicts between the two packages. But as I recall in recent past on my current install I did not have any issue whatsoever.

Thank you for your help, waiting to see if there are any additional findings…

Thank you!

PulseAudio is using duplex profile <output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo>
But audio capture is disabled in ALSA

Simple mixer control 'Capture',0

  Front Left: Capture 63 [100%] [30.00dB] [off]
  Front Right: Capture 63 [100%] [30.00dB] [off]

To turn Capture on

amixer --card=0 sset 'Capture' cap

Fn + F4 on keyboard may be using a similar command to toggle microphone capture on and off

amixer -c0 sset 'Capture' toggle

Well, thank you again. That was almost an easy catch…

Let’s say that yes, this partially fixed it.
At this time, my microphone is working with this little work-around… but my GNOME settings panel still doesn’t recognize it, so each time (app by app…like Skype / Audacity / etc…) I need to go in the preferences and select the audio native card in order to make it work.
I add to set a different keyboard shortcut to recall this functionality, but the Fn+Mic function still doesn’t work anymore

Any additional idea where I can look to globally fix in the GNOME DE?

Thank you!

The duplex audio profile will have 2 sources for capturing audio

  • alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo.monitor
to capture audio playing to speaker/headphones
  • alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo
    to capture audio from microphone

To set microphone input as the default-source:

pacmd set-default-source alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo

If Gnome GUI controls are still not working as expected, Install pavucontrol (PulseAudio Volume Control)
pavucontrol shows all card profiles in Configuration tab regardless of availability state
Configuration tab also has an option to lock the card profile

nikgnomic, thank you very much for your support!

 I have no idea what the real fix was, however, today, magically after an additional reboot, everything is back to function normally:
image

No idea what the real solution was but I will sign-off yesterdays suggestions that you recommended to me, since, after those steps, I did not modify anything else.

I do have pavucontrol installed and originally I tried to play around with it trying to troubleshoot the issue.

Thank you again for all your valuable hints and suggestions, I hope this tread may help someone else in future (me included) that will step into similar issues regarding audio/sound impairments.
