Audio distorted, dropping out or differently pitched, even after clean install for Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Gen)

I am having constant audio problems with my Audio Interface, a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd gen. Even after a clean install with packages updated.

I am using Manjaro KDE on the latest LTS Linux kernel (5.10) with all the default packages updated.

I am having the following problems:

  • Audio drops out or gets distorted when I click the “Audio Devices” button on my panel.
  • Audio randomly drops out and the audio interface disappear from the list of audio devices. It only returns after a reboot.
  • Audio is sometimes pitched differently.
  • Other people sometimes hear me pitched differently.
  • When the audio device disappears, applications using audio crash.

How can I fix these problems? What logs do I need to provide to help fix the problem?

Try a different USB port
Disable TLP or remove it
Try a RT = real time Kernel

Have just tried all three different things. All three options still don’t resolve the issue.

Try different USB port[s]

Tried several different ports on my motherboard and the USB ports on my PCIe card.

Disable TLP or remove it

Removed TLP (since I don’t really need it on a PC anyway) and rebooted the PC. This did not fix the issue.

Try a RT = real time Kernel

Installed and booted the real time kernel using the Manjaro Settings Manager. Testing for the issue still gives me the same problem. It also seems like Manjaro doesn’t boot the RT kernel automatically. It defaults to the normal kernel. I had to select if from the GRUB boot menu.

If this is useful, this is how I am reproducing it (at least one of the issues):

  1. Boot up PC and log in.
  2. Start something that plays sound (like a YouTube video).
  3. Click the Audio Devices button in the bottom left of the panel.
  4. The audio drops out and come back, but it is distorted.

I have currently replaced PulseAudio with Pipewire using this guide. Currently, I don’t have one of the issues that I can test. I will try this out if this works out.
