Audio Devices not working

I’ve got no audio devices showing up on the audio devices KDE applet, and no audio from ANY source.
Inxi -A just freezes.
if i run it as root it works :

sudo inxi -Aa

rebooting the computer, sometimes, quite randomly the audio devices start poping in an out and eventually stay working. but that only happens once in something like 20 -30 boots.

sometimes, restarting the pipewire service also works :

systemctl --user restart pipewire.service

but that has also been unreliable.

i’ve been trying to figure this out for about 3 days now.
This started to happen after an update. i’ve also switched the graphics card of my notebook, but the driver installation trough mhwd worked without too much trouble.
can someone help me out here? i can provide whatever information is needed.
Currently running manjaro KDE, Kernel 6.9

also… i’ve got a windows dual boot i get to for work once in a blue moon, audio works fine there.
Thank you very much. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Create a new User and login using the new account. Test it for more than 5 minutes to see if anything that didn’t work now works as expected. If no obvious issues, then the problem remains in your previous User configuration.

Just tried that, but it gave me the same issue :

no audio detected.
inxi -A hangs.
where else could the problem be?

i’m at a loss here. and i really don’t want to reinstall…
thank you @soundofthunder

That’s fine. You can probably remove the first one. The second should be enough for others to help a little easier. I’m sure someone will respond soon enough. Cheers.

I have the same issue but my sound is working. Nothing shows up when I use the system tray audio control, such as your situation. But if I click the “Configure Audio Devices” button it brings up the main system settings sound page. Also, if I open Pulse Audio volume control, everything works there.

So for me its just the proper things missing in the system tray widget.

This occurred after the most recent update but NOT the MAJOR update that occurred roughly 2 weeks ago (when I applied it - the one that caused lots of issues)

I added that Im exp’ing a similar issue to OG but my sound does work so Im not going to go seek out solutions, yet. Ill wait a few weeks and see if new updates fix it.

@nikgnomic might have some thoughts on this; a forum search using that name along with ‘audio’ (for example) might reveal a few similar issues and solutions worth reading.

sudo Inxi -A does not work to show status of audio server running in user-space

Server-3: PipeWire v: 1.0.7 status: n/a (root, process)

I suggest check user services for PipeWire

systemctl --user -l status pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber

and check if the 4 devices shown in inxi are detected and available in PipeWire

pactl info; pactl list cards

For KDE it could be this:
ArchWiki - PipeWire - No sound after login into KDE Plasma | pipewire context failed

I have the same problem which popped up on the next reboot after installing a few things. A fresh user account on the same machine does have sound and doesn’t have user systemd services for sound.

I uninstalled the main repo version of Discord which also removed the user sound services. Installing the flatpak version of Discord doesn’t create these user services, so no more sound problems.

Latest update from today, June 10th, has fixed the issue for me. Audio control in system tray is back to what I expect.

Hopefully its the same for @pablokiryu and everyone else exp’ing the issue.
