For me, the suggested solution does not work.
Audacity is already set to ALSA: pulse

When Audacity is launched the audio capture source is usually inactive
Clicking the recording level control Click to Start Monitoring activates the ALSA plug-in for recording in PulseAudio
(screenshot in previous topic shows Recording tab pavucontrol --tab=2 )
But the ALSA plug-in for audio playback is activated automatically when playback is started in Audacity
The default sink will be used by PulseAudio for audio playback unless the user selects a different device in pavucontrol
Use this command to check which device is set as the default sink
pacmd dump | grep default-sink
set-default-sink alsa_output.usb-KORG_INC._KAOSS_DJ-00.analog-surround-40
(this is without starting audacity.)
