Asus laptop kbdlight ok in 6.9.12-3. Broken after wake in 6.10.6-10

Hello.

As the title suggests:

This is on a Asus OLED Zenbook UX3405MA laptop.

Kernel 6.9.12-3:

  • KB light button (Fn-F4) works fine both before and after sleep.
  • I can change the brightness using echo 0 to 3 to /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness both before and after sleep.

Kernel 6.10.6-10

  • KB light button (Fn-F4) works fine only before sleep.
  • I can change the brightness using echo 0 to 3 to /sys/class/leds/asus::kbd_backlight/brightness only before sleep. After sleep kbd_backlight remains off.

Kernel 6.11.0rc4-7:

  • Same as Kernel 6.10.6-10. Broken after sleep.

There is nothing in dmesg or journal indicating any issue when waking from sleep. I have tried also rmmod and modprobe for the asus-wmi and asus-nb-wmi modules. Does not solve the problem.

Let me know any additional logs, troubleshooting I can do.

I’m observing the same issue on my Lenovo Thinkpad P16v:

Keyboard backlight is broken after sleep when using 6.10.6-10 kernel.

I’ve stepped back to 6.6.47-1 which is the latest LTS available right now with which the keyboard backlight works without a problem after waking up from sleep.

Btw. It’s not only the keyboard backlight that was broken, but also the caps-lock, num-lock, fn-lock and mic-mute indicators on the keyboard that stop working after waking up from stand-by mode with the 6.10.6-10 kernel.
