Assigning Caps into additional Hyper key breaks shortcuts

I changed the behavior of the caps key into a hyper key (which my laptop keyboard doesn’t have by default). This was done to expand the pool of custom shortcuts I can assign. However, doing so and using the new hyper key in shortcuts always breaks things and doesn’t function at all.

I tried assigning “hyper + s” to clementine. It works very erratically, and the “assign shortcut” button in settings displays something that looks like “◌ງ” instead of “hyper + s”. I’ve tried to look it up, but I just don’t know the keywords. Am I supposed to configure a hyper key because, maybe, it doesn’t come with the system out of the box?

In addition, assigning caps to a super key acted exactly like a meta key instead, and this was reflected in the shortcuts settings.

Thanks.
