Ardour 8.12-3 completely broken on Arch based distros

Seems at the moment Ardour is completely unusable.
Crashes on opening and reopening Plugins (LSP, Zynaddsubfx) other plugins don’t open/reopen at all (x42).
Crashes on closing.
Seems that Ardour can’t catch up with the fast development of Arch.
No issues on other DAWs (Reaper, Qtractor).

Cinnamon Desktop (tried others as well). Tried several Kernels.
AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, AMD Radeon 780M Graphics

Only one of the mentioned packages has not been updated recently

Please post more information about system

inxi -v8 --filter

Also suggest run ardour8 from terminal to check for startup error messages and check system journal for errors.
Please use a pastebin service for posting large amounts of code or long logs

If that were truly an issue, I note that alternatives exist; example - install Ardour as flatpak - I can’t confirm whether or not an .appimage version exists (someone else might know).

It would be prudent to indicate how you installed ardour; whether it was from the official Manjaro repositories, or perhaps sourced externally from the AUR.

Interestingly, Ardour seems to function without issue in my environment. I wonder, what is the source you reference that suggests Ardour is “completely broken on Arch based distros”?

Please also provide system information as described (below).

Regards.

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form (preferred):

inxi -zv8

Request: Ardour on Steam - Ideas for Ardour - Ardour

The problem with that are plugins.

Same issue as with FlatPak and Snap, appImage and their respective stores. If you were to get Ardour from Steam, you would also have to get all plugins from Stream, and that’s pretty much a no-go.

Those stores only work for self-contained applications.

Flatpak-problem - Ardour

Flatpak is provided by a 3rd party, so you have to ask them to provide support.

Flatpak software is sandboxed: it cannot access system-wide resources (unless you specifically configure this).

In short: If you use the flatpak’ed version of Ardour, all the plugins also need to be installed as flatpak.

For software that relies on 3rd party plugins, like DAWs, a native install is preferable.

So I think I finally found the error:
It seems to be a mesa 25.2.2- issue on my hardware.
So I tried amdonly-gaming-mesa-git 25.3.0. and now
everythings working again, no crashes, no plugin issues anymore.
