Looks like you want to install something from AUR - which often means that you need to compile something.

You need (at least) the package group base-devel installed.
fakeroot and much more that is needed is in there.

First make sure that you actually need to use the AUR - if you cannot just use the regular repos.

Coolercontrol is just on Aur, thats what I wanted to install, then fakeroot, which failed and I dont get it because I never had that problem before in Manjaro. Or maybe I forgot, because it was almost 3 years ago

Installing base-devel fixed it thanks!

coolercontrol-bin would have been easier - no need to compile it, it is already compiled

I went for that one, but it failed. Maybe because at first I tried all of them, after I remembered that the bin’s are those who are installed faster and ofc they block each other.

After each one you try – make sure to uninstall it immediately before trying a new one – you do that, right?

Usually this pacman variation will ensure (even an AUR package) is uninstalled along with any of it’s dependencies that are not in use:

sudo pacman -Rns <packagename>

I uninstalled it in octopi before I reinstalled the bin version.

I’d always visit this site - the link here goes to show the specific available versions:

AUR (en) - Packages

I don’t know whether one could see the ratings (votes and popularity columns) when searching for the package with the pamac-GUI

But that is what I’d look for - the ratings the package got.

In this case: coolercontrol - not the -bin version :man_shrugging:
the one that you apparently ended up using

In this case I’d probably have tried the -bin version anyway - as they are all the same version.

The AUR web site I linked you to has got two more versions.

I personally do not use pamac or it’s GUI ever - just for testing
… as I just did right at this moment.

It shows the same four versions as the AUR web site I linked you to. :man_shrugging:
Not just the two that your screenshot shows.

Yes, before installation it showed four on aur, two normal and two bin-versions.

While it is actually just two, the 2nd is coolercontrold ,the service that comes with coolercontrol.

This is what I see - it's the command line version of the same tool which you used: **pamac**
pamac search coolercontrol  ✔  5m 38s 

a -bin version and a “normal” version of each one

just as on the web site:

AUR (en) - Packages

… the very same … of course

As I said:
I do not usually use pamac - I rather avoid it “like the plague” as they say …
I use pacman (terminal)
and yay for AUR stuff

… but:
I come from Arch - I know it well
That tool (pamac) is specific to Manjaro - and … I just don’t use it if I don’t have to … :man_shrugging:
(which is: never do I have to …)

Using the console you can see the same. So basically Konsole is no advantage, even less if you have to keep searching for commands like me (even after 3 years).

After 30 years of Windows a gui is just what one is used to.

You wont remember but I again had the problem after a fresh install, that all drives asked for passwords for mounting. It is kinda weird that only I would be having this issue. Wonder what triggers that one hehe. Well I used the same thing I did last time and hope it is done with. Thats why I wanted to restore the home folder to begin with.

I do remember - and it seems to be a Dolphin “quirk”.
I even tested it - it wanted my password to mount some drive I added to the Plasma VM
that is running right now and from which I see what you see …

(… calm down  - I don’t see YOUR system, of course - I just see a default KDE Plasma system before me … )

It wants your admin password to mount the drive - it isn’t that somehow, suddenly, the drive is password protected.

It asks the admin password to mount the drive/partition - just the same as what would happen in the terminal.

In terminal you would need to use sudo
or you would be told that you don’t have permission to do that.
Unix/Linux - that is how it works.

Yea, just the ticks that are kinda annoying coming from another OS’ and not having the fingers on the keyboard all the time

I have no idea what that means :man_shrugging:

All it means that all the little (new) things can be getting on your nerves when you sit sideways at the desk, with the hand on the mouse while it keeps asking for key inputs like pw’s for every little thing.

But it is the same with a fresh Win install. I just switched because MS reverted many things with patches again and hid them somewhere else.

that would not be my experience - the password is not asked again and again within a certain time frame

If you close the terminal each time - then: yes, of course.

I just again realize that not using GUI tools, but the terminal or terminal file managers like “mc” is so much easier …

Not helpful to you, unfortunately - unless you decide to try and invest some time and learn a bit of the arcane terminal command language …

… specific questions go a long way …
