Anh-Linh 25.1; problem with xsane-gimp plugin

I have a fresh installation of Anh-Linh 25.1-pre1 and installed printers and scanner with success. The scanner is working with gscan2pdf correct. Now I tried to install the Gimp-plugin.

sudo pacman -S xsane xsane-gimp

This didn’t show the scanner-connection in Gimp "File → Acquire → …” and there were errors. After I had a look at AUR, I uninstalled the 2 packages and installed:

xsane-git xsane-gimp-git cfitsio

Now the Plugin works and I can scan inside Gimp. But with errors (starting via commandline):

gimp
set device 'Wayland Pointer' to mode: disabled

(xsane:158305): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 14:38:06.664: gdk_monitor_get_workarea: assertion 'GDK_IS_MONITOR (monitor)' failed

(xsane:158305): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 14:38:06.665: gtk_widget_set_size_request: assertion 'width >= -1' failed
[xsane] ERROR: xsane-startimage not found. Looks like xsane is not installed correct.
[xsane] ERROR: xsane-startimage not found. Looks like xsane is not installed correct.
[xsane] ERROR: xsane-startimage not found. Looks like xsane is not installed correct.
[xsane] Failed to get preview image memory.

It is still possible to scan, because the errors disappear. Still the message “force quit or wait“ appears.

Any idea? Is it on missing X11?

Here my inxi:

This could not have worked - these are not repo packages
not present in the normal repos

Is/was sane installed?
(that one is in the repos …)

… there might be some misunderstanding or wrong assumptions here as to how things are (supposed to) work

My understanding is that xsane-gimp hasn’t yet been ported to work with GIMP-3.0.
You may have more luck with xsane-cli, which has been written to get around this by passing xsane’s output to GIMP via the command-line. It’s certainly working for me.

Sane is installed. This one is in AUR. I will try…

This works fine! Thank you!

At the commandline there is still (while Gimp from Repo starts):

set device 'Wayland Pointer' to mode: disabled

I think this is independant from the plugin.

There is only this:

Gtk-Message: 17:24:19.475: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

This is in libcanberra, which is installed…

I reinstalled libcanberra: Now no more the second output.

Anh-Linh 25.1-pre2 ISOs (at the time of writing) can be found under the Additional Info heading in the Stable Update 2025-12-15 announcement thread.
