Amdgpu: drm_atomic_helper on Navi 10

Hi folks,

My computer crashes usually when I close VLC after watching a video or when browsing inside it. No cursor, screen is frozen but I can hear sound.

journalctl shows this error right before I hard rebooted :

janv. 15 18:59:23 kernel: [drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_flip_done [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* [CRTC:73:crtc-1] flip_done timed out
janv. 15 18:59:33 kernel: [drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_dependencies [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* [CRTC:73:crtc-1] flip_done timed out
janv. 15 18:59:43 kernel: [drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_dependencies [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* [CONNECTOR:103:HDMI-A-1] flip_done timed out
janv. 15 18:59:54 kernel: [drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_dependencies [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* [PLANE:56:plane-4] flip_done timed out

Found this post that seems to have the same problem but it didn’t help me since it’s not resolved

Thanks for your help

Edit : It’s really hard to reproduce, sometime it didn’t crash at all.

I think it’s a pretty widespread kernel 5.10.* issue. I have identical, flip_done time out messages in my journalctl, and I’ve had freezes and artifacting upon boot. I think it’s best to roll back to kernel 5.9 in GRUB and wait for 5.11. :sob:

my issue actually cleared when I updated to 5.10 but i am also on Mesa git.

Ok thanks. Rolling back to 5.9 branch.

Edit : Where should I report this bug to help with it ?

They good know about this mess:
