AMD and Radeon based computer randomly crashes after upgrade to kernel 5.15 LTS from 5.10 LTS

AMD CPU and Radeon graphics card.
Kernel 5.10.123 LTS boots and runs perfectly.
After upgrade to 5.15 LTS, system boots and I can log in normally but system crashes within the first few minutes. REISUB to shut down does not work, have to reset.
Tried all the other kernel versions later than 5.10.123 LTS and they all do the same.
Any suggestions?

can you report

inxi -Fza

have you checked your log journal on boot 5.15 ?
see with

sudo journalctl -bn (n=0 current , -1 boot before etc ... )

Thank you for the reply.

IN BIOS: activate “Typical Current Idle” may help…
– If the system saves too much power even though more power is needed…

you can check for update UEFI motherboard ( not the beta version )
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/A320M-PRO-M2-V2/support

you can also add theses parameters on boot

in /etc/default/grub
on line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

amd_iommu=on iommu=pt processor.max_cstate=5 rcu_nocbs=0_11 systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=true scsi_mod.use_blk_mq=1

Bios is on the latest version.

Added the parameters to grub as suggested, made no difference.

  1. Ubuntu 22.04 uses kernel 5.15 - if you boot from a Live-USB - will this crash your machine?
  2. create a new user and disable autoboot. Install kernel 5.15.
Will PC crash after logging in as the new user?

…will introduce bad latency switching
IOMMU → disable
C-States —> enable

You run pulseaudio AND pipewire??
Search in the Forum howto switch to pipewire…

  1. Tried Manjaro live boot with later kernel, crashed immediately.
Also tried EndeavourOS with 5.18 kernel, crashed immediately.
  2. Do not know how to disable autoboot

Also tried proprietary AMD GPU drivers, same result.

I meant autologin, wrote autoboot. My fault. But that would not help.
Try using only one Monitor?

I have tried the following:

  1. Disabled one of the two monitors, no change
  2. Disabled graphics card, only use internal graphics, no change
  3. Tried MXlinux with the later kernel, no change

If it crashes and forces your PC to reboot, then check journalctl -p err -b -1

Copy the error message in your comment.

I do not see these error messages are related to AMD CPU and Radeon.
Did it crash today before?

The other error:

Check baloo status: balooctl status

Check journalctl -p err -b -1 --no-page to show all messages.

balooctl status
Baloo File Indexer is not running
Total files indexed: 23 497
Files waiting for content indexing: 0
Files failed to index: 0
Current size of index is 1,18 GiB

Zesko, system runs fine with kernel 5.10 LTS anything above that causes immediate crash.
I'll check journalctl and post result.

On my machine the equivalent of “KVM” must be enabled to run Manjaro withOut problems…
(intended mainly to run virtual machines)

Good morning, I have discovered that MX21 can run perfectly if I use the failsafe nomodeset option in the live USB boot option.
Still trying to discover where to enter this in Manjaro boot and if it will work.

If failsafe and/or nomodeset is entered into boot file, Manjaro displays LightDM error.
Can switch with ctl-alt-f2 and if startx is then entered, error appears stating that no monitors can be found.

Please suggest solutions as I would like to continue using Manjaro (distro of choice last 5 years) but at the moment it seems that when 5.10 LTS support stops I’ll have to switch to MX-linux as that is the only one that works on my computer with the later kernels.
