All of the sudden I cannot access my phone storage

I am connecting my OnePlus 8T via USB-C cable to my laptop, choosing the file transfer mode in the USB connection dialog on the phone, just like I did so many times before when it used to work.

The only difference is that now nothing happens. The phone’s internal storage doesn’t show up in the Gnome File Explorer. Nothing shows up.

Yes, I have USB debugging, turned on and the phone connects and is recognized via adb tools.

The cable isn’t faulty since the phone storage connects and is available just fine on my girlfriends Linux Mint laptop.

Installing gvfs-mtp did it.

However, why it is no longer installed by default on a Gnome system, is another question altogether.
