Until the last update it worked well.
As title shows, now it is out of order.
Interesting thing.
If I right-clcik on the taskbar and select the Panel edit mode and set that On, the applet suddenly appears in the system tray.
That is disappointing that will vanish switch Off the mode.
What should be the solution for showing normally that applet?
Hi,
I’m also using the Cinnamon edition and I just checked it, it was exactly the same as you described.
I then checked the keyboard layout and there was only the one I’m using (French azerty).
So I added a second layout (US English qwerty) and now it works as intended and stays visible, so you might want to see if for some reason it was reverted to a single keyboard layout…
Good luck!
Thank you for your feedback.
My situation is a bit different.
I had already the two keyboard layouts.
Then I added the applet. Two years have passed and more updates happened.
Then came the last update.
Then the applet vanished.
Now, I checked the layouts. I was shocked.
I have only the my home layout. The update somehow deleted the other one, the english.
I added quickly the english. The applet showed immediatly.
I actually had also a second keyboard layout, but I didn’t use it for a long time and so I removed the applet after a while, thinking that I will put it back when I will need it again…
But still, I didn’t expected that an update could reset it to a single layout, so I was very surprised too!
FYI, in case you want to have the flags being shown in the applet, you will need the package iso-flag-png from AUR.
Beware that using AUR with Stable is neither supported nor recommended, but can be done if you are careful enough and check everything in details before building (i’m using 7 that I need and can get anywhere else, and never had any problems)…
And Timeshift snapshots are your friends, just in case!
Because you are risking stability on one hand, but also some malicious actors have already abused the AUR infrastructure, so it’s better to know how to review an AUR package in case you want to build one, see here more details How to review an AUR package | bertptrs.nl
I’ve added iso-flag-png to the repos as a dependency of cinnamon. In System Settings > Keyboard, there is an option to show a country flag . It’s not enabled by default, but apparently the Keyboard Applet expects the flags to be there.
Thank you for the tip (never noticed this option before) and for the package
It seems it’s only available in Unstable for now, so it will then make its way to Stable later, after a bit of testing, isn’t it?
