After every update requiring a restart, if screenlock is activated before restart, the system is stuck with boot splash

Not sure if this is the right place to report this, but I have a hunch it has something to do with a new kernel needing to load a new nvidia driver.

I have a GTX 1080 with the proprietary drivers, using xfce.

After an update that requires a restart, if the screenlock is activated, it’d immediately show the boot splash screen used when starting up manjaro and get stuck like that until I restart it. Even switching to different ttys using alt+ctrl+F-key doesn’t work.

It happened again today… Is it just my machine? Is there a way to fill in a bug over this?

Ok, here’s the contents of /var/log/Xorg.1.log:

As I suspected, it’s an issue with the nvidia driver failing to reload after a new kernel is installed.

Anything more I can do to report this bug?

Now that I’ve applied the latest update, it’ll happen again if I’ll lock the screen before restarting - is there any action I can take to make debugging this easier?

any missing log information? Should I increase the verbosity of some log files? Should I run something that monitors the system before locking the screen?

I’d really like to help solve this annoying issue… There’s no real reason why I wouldn’t be able to continue using my system for a while before restarting it… It works well until the screen-lock.

If it’s a consistent situation for you. Maybe try to switch to another TTY before doing the upgrade?

It works fine until the screen gets locked (or maybe its the monitor going to sleep that causes it).
It seems as if the system tries to reload the nvidia driver after that, not right after the upgrade, so I’m not sure upgrading from a different TTY would solve it.

And anyway, this shouldn’t be an issue… I want to help fix it, I don’t want to work around the problem with these sort of tricks… I can just restart right away after the upgrade to work around this issue as well, but it’s inconvenient and shouldn’t be necessary in a properly working system - This is why I want to report this as fully as I can. But maybe it’s the wrong place to do so… Where can I report this bug so that it can get fixed by the devs?

It’s probably the xfce4 screen locker’s problem. See Xfce - ArchWiki
Maybe report there.

It might be a lightdm or a light locker bug as well… I wonder if there’s a way to tell…
