After 2026-05-02 update screen brightness doesn't work on kernel 6.18

After the latest update, my screen brightness is bugged on my Lenovo Legion 5 Laptop. I tried the 6.12 kernel, and it worked fine on it.
Also, there is a specific workaround to get the brightness to %100 again, which is to close the lid of the laptop and re-open the laptop, and unlock the screen (triggers hibernation).

I didn’t get any responses on this, but posting a workaround for people who might have faced the same issue.
I completely ditched kernel 6.18 and will upgrade when the 7.1 becomes LTS, for now I am using kernel 6.12 which is more stable for my usage.

Well, since I’ve already registered here to troubleshoot other thing, I guess I can help you gain traction with your problem, and post same observation made from POV of Lenovo Ideapad U330 Touch.

Yes, brightness regulation doesn’t have any effect whatsoever on newer kernels. It won’t work either commanded by laptop keyboard keys, nor Gnome slider.

@Yamo If you want newer kernel than 6.12, you can try linux-zen-versioned-bin

My laptop regained ability to control brightness on that kernel and it’s supposedly more responsive than ordinary brewed ones, so who knows, maybe it’s worth taking shot?

@Empatheon
Thanks, for the suggestion.

Just to give you a bit of context so far the brightness has been working for me, it has been ever since kernel 5.10 or something—not sure exactly when it’s been 5 years :D—It was also working since 6.18 became LTS so far, up until the latest update, I had to rollback to my fallback kernel.

All is good now.
