Nope…

It should actually be

Manjaro-IOS

No affiliation with AppleTM iOS.

(Thankfully)

Manjaro LTS
Manjaro Static as in (Unstable, Testing, Stable, Static) which fits this

with Static right at the top.

I think that would be a very appropriate name. :+1:

One of the very first possibilities that came to mind – Static / Steady – but, then I dismissed it; although, I can’t think of much to improve on that, as I type;

Unless…

Manjaro Sticky

If nothing else, that might be synonymous with Catchy or Popular; which a Japanese phrase referring to pop music roughly translates to; sticky music…

From what I understand (so far), the branches will be changing to something resembling:

Old branch name New branch name Repository access
Stable Stable Public access
Testing Testing No public access
Unstable Edge Public access

The Immutable/Static Manjaro is outside that flow; in as far as I’ve been able to glean from various Team comments in recent weeks.

Triple CCC's are welcome…

It saddens me that my included play on a Star Trek reference; The Original Series (TOS); might have fallen on deaf ears…

That would have a negative connotation for most people. “Static” is a much better choice, and especially so outside of the Anglo-Saxon world.

No, I for one got it.

I don’t dislike it; especially when faced with Immutable as an alternative; but… there must be something better… somewhere… out there…

“Frozen”, perhaps?

Hmmm…

Could work…but “Static” is better, IMHO.

Sticky can have some awfully negative connotations. Especially in a more corporate environment…

I think someone already mentioned that one.

Some possible consideration could be given to:

Manjaro Summit (as in mountain)

That would be even less comprehensible for non-Anglo-Saxons.

Manjaro Freeze (Surely, this hits the mark)

I should stop calling you Surely.

With Summit right at the top. :mountain:

That also fits with the origin story of the name Manjaro being based on Mount Kilimanjaro. :+1:

There is another posibility ‘Apex’, but I haven’t looked at that in other Languages.

Interestingly Apex aliterates in all the languages I’ve looked at so far.

Even the Ideogram in Chinese suggests the Top or Summit or the Apex.

I would agree to anything that might raise awareness of System Maintenance - Manjaro Wiki for new users,
but not the polemic topic linked from OP

But wiki information is not likely to reduce problems if nobody links to it or quotes from it

That’s one way to word things…

I wrote above why it would appear that way to some.

I dont see that anywhere.
I see justifications for why it might be desirable … but no acknowledgement or rationale for its tone or content.

For my part … I kinda detest the thing, and even more so the idea of it being waved in every newcomers face. Which some forum users have already, distastefully, taken it upon themselves to do in threads here.

That was the intention;

along with synonym perceptions such as pinnacle and peak; no doubt useful terms suitable for accompanying texts and descriptions.

Apex is similar, though the first thing it conjures (in my mind) is Apex Predator; much like asserting Manjaro is at the top of the food chain; whether that’s desired imagery, I can’t say.

Just for your information, there is such a thing as criticism, and there is also such a thing as disdain. The latter makes it personal. Perhaps you should both learn the difference between those two concepts.

The very fact that my essay has received 35 “likes” from members who actually care, and has at the time of my writing this post already been linked to 134 times since it was posted in the middle of January 2024, would suggest that there’s some validity in what I wrote.

The problem with “Peak” is that it could be interpreted as “bleeding edge”, which is very much the opposite of what the currently used “Immutable” label is supposed to represent.

I personally still prefer Static, but ultimately it’s up to @romangg, @dennis1248 and @philm to decide, and they might feel that “Immutable” would still be best.
