Active Tab Highlight Missing in GNOME Terminal

In the latest Manjaro GNOME version 24.2.1-241216-linux612 ISO and starting from a previous version, the terminal no longer highlights the active tab, making it difficult to distinguish which tab is currently active.

In the system I installed earlier, possibly in 2021, there was a blue bar under the tab.

Welcome

I don’t use Gnome so I don’t know what’s it’s meant to look like…but the one on the right seems to be active. :man_shrugging:

Have I missed something?

Thank you! Happy to be here.
Yes, the right one is active. But I always have to think about which one is active.

I just downloaded the iso and had a play around.

If you enable Settings → Accessibility → Seeing → High Contrast, you do get a blue bar underneath the active tab, and the tabs look more like the ones in the picture you added later (no rounded corners).

However there are other changes, so I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for.

I’ve never seen the gnome terminal on manjaro with square tabs and it looks more like Konsole, where you using a theme/extension of some sorts?

yeah, this brings back the blue bar, but the High Contrast setting isn’t really what I’m looking for. It changes a lot in the UI. I’d love it if the blue bar could show up in the default settings, like in the previous releases.

@Hanzel
i got the iso file from the official site. and did a straight install without tweaking any settings.

Mod Edit: Merged consecutive posts.

Hey guys, I need some help!

:point_up_2:
Where you (in 2021) using some sort of theme or other terminal client?

I only installed Oh My Zsh, but it’s not related to this issue i think。
I mentioned 2021 just for comparison. The real issue is that the recent version doesn’t have the blue indicator bar.

All of below version , just fresh install

Yonada 24.2.0 (2024-12-08)
Xahea 24.1.2 (2024-11-04)
in these 3 iso files, the terminal without color indicator.

I’m not sure I completely understand so forgive my rambling, from your research it seems something was changed in the default. I do not know why/how to change this.

@Yochanan Would you take a look at this?

Sure it does–just not in the way you expected.

Indeed. It’s a feature, not a bug.

I never use tabs, just open another window (I prefer tiling), it seamlessly integrates with the rest of the ui, so yeah nice feature

Me, too. I use Tilix.

@dmt @Hanzel @Yochanan Thanks, everyone, for your help. I tried out Tilix, and it’s exactly the terminal app I needed. I’ll be switching from GNOME Terminal to Tilix from now on.

I understand that the lack of tab highlights is working as designed, but there’s no color highlight, which I find confusing. Did people ask for this change? Other distros don’t have this issue, and it makes things less user-friendly. As a heavy GNOME Terminal user, I really feel the difference.
