Hello,
I bought an Acer Aspire A515-47 with no OS as I was pretty confident I shouldn’t have issues installing my preferred Linux, given it is an AMD architecture machine. But after installing and updating, I still don’t have Bluetooth and the webcam is also not detected. Hovering over the Bluetooth icon in Status and Notifications I get “No adapters available”. Opening a webcam app I get “No supported camera found”. As mentioned - the system is updated. Regarding the Bluetooth - bluez
is installed. The laptop does have webcam and Bluetooth adapter, in terms of hardware.
Now, I also tried Fedora, Linux Mint, and Ubuntu - on all of these I had the exact same issue - no Bluetooth and no webcam. During booth on Linux Mint I saw a couple of error messages: Problem loading X.509 certificate
(which, as I understand from a quick online search, is harmless and pretty much irrelevant) and usbhid: can't add hid device -110
(about which I don’t really know anything at this point).
I believe this is somehow connected to the issue - I have very hard time getting my mouse to be picked up: obviously I can’t connect it as a Bluetooth device, but when I plug the WiFi adapter in a USB port, it doesn’t get picked up right away and I have to unplug it and plug it back in a number of times before it gets picked up and starts working; it feels very random. The problem is not the particular device - I tried a different mouse - same behavior. I also tested the USB ports with a USB flash drive - the thumb drive gets picked up straight away every single time on every single USB port.
I don’t know if this s at all relevant, but the machine was upgraded from the reseller before the purchase: the stock RAM and SSD were upgraded. Also, I had to create a supervisor password and disable Secure Booth in order to be able to install Linux on the machine.
I tried updating the firmware and the output of fwupdmgr get-updates

As far as I’m aware I haven’t had other issues with the machine - it works as I would expect it to, just except of these two devices - the Bluetooth and the webcam.
Since the issue appears to be OS independent (Linux OS that is), my best guess was the firmware, but it seems I was wrong here.
I would appreciate any help and thank you in advance for your time!
