8bitdo pro 2 controller (bluetooth)

My 8bitdo Pro 2 controller has recently stopped working via bluetooth. This is probably the result of some update which of course did not break anything other than this stupid controller. The 8bitd controllers have been an enormous pain in the ass with blueotooth (previously it would sometimes disconnect, but only when not being used, so it was tolerable). For context, I’ve never had any problem whatsoever with any other bluetooth device, and yes I’ve used a few.

Frankly at this point I’d happily throw the damn thing in the trash, but there are bafflingly few good options out there for controllers, so that’s not likely to happen.

Here’s my system:

System:
  Host: asus-desk-1 Kernel: 5.15.74-3-MANJARO arch: x86_64 bits: 64
Desktop: Qtile v: 0.22.1 Distro: Manjaro Linux
Machine:
Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) v: Rev X.0x
    serial: <superuser required> UEFI-[Legacy]: American Megatrends v: 0807
    date: 07/08/2019

I run the blueman applet and manage my devices through blueman-manager.

Anybody have any ideas I might try?

(This issue mentions the controller but seems to have different symptoms.)
