4k display issue with nvidia proprietary driver (nouveau too)

brand new to manjaro so here goes. btw, the closest similar topic i see seems to be from almost five years ago so it seems fair to post this.

i have a gtx 3060 card that runs four displays i use for media work. three are spread side by side across my console and one, a 4k, is on my wall, used for video playback. the layout and display detection seems fine with both nouveau and proprietary drivers. the 4k display, however, refuses to display at 4k. if i set the resolution to the native 3840x2160, the screen does not display at all, not even black. if i change the resolution to 1920x1080, however, it displays fine, just at the wrong size.

i’m coming from ubuntu studio, which i’ve run for years without issue. older versions as well as its current lts version, 24.04, do not have this problem. it seems to only happen with my manjaro installation.

i’m a long time kde user on ubuntu and am using it on manjaro as well. that doesn’t seem to affect this issue - display is fine in ubuntu, not so in manjaro.

any help debugging this is much appreciated. it seems to be the last thing preventing me from migrating to manjaro as ubuntu has introduced a change that has made my audio software unusable. manjaro seems to solve that problem.

thanks,
babag
