Yoshimi segfaults, anything I can do?

Hi all, I just did an upgrade, and (as to be expected) there is something to learn…

I use Yoshimi quite extensively (softsynth)…it segfaults

I use Linux 6.6 on that particular box…

Thanks a lot for meditating with me

:rose: Melissa :rose:

I’ll check it out on my Media Computer later. At the moment I have an old 32 bit clamshell providing Yoshimi for my MIDI keyboard, so no issues there.

Thanks…

I use an Intel NUC, here…if I could help by providing info, let me know, thanks

MOD EDIT: placed inxi output inside triple backticks using the </> button, for you.

Could you be helped with the startup messages? I start yoshimi from the terminal just for these instances…

That might help too. use the </> button for posting cli output.

Thought so, here they come

That would most likely be the problem.

okay, I’ll try to install it now and get beck to you, gimme a sec…

…still the same…

This is the kernel:

Linux caliope 6.6.119-1-MANJARO #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Dec 7 08:34:08 UTC 2025 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I haven’t gone to the old Caravan where I keep my Music stuff, yet, but I’m running 6.17.x RT on my media machine. I’'ve been doing breakfast. I’m not sure that would make a difference, though.

Well, I’ll install that kernel and try…thanks…hang on…

dash…still the same. Yoshimi is usefull for its interface…Zynaddsubfx had the same interface once…it’s basically just that…

Yes I get the same error as you do. At the moment I have no idea. I’ll have to make time to try to chase it down, but that won’t be until this afternoon.

dont give it priority…maybe go upstream. but…take time when you can, this is a mere annoyance as I have to learn Zyn’s interface now…and it’s not the best design…

I’ll leave things as they are, maybe some next upgrade will fix it…we’ll see…

Enjoy your day, please…do have a great day… :hugs:

I didn’t.

I found this… #1112199 - yoshimi: Segment violation launching in Wayland (with labwc window composer) - Debian Bug report logs

from that, above this seems to work

FLTK_BACKEND=x11  yoshimi

edit the yoshimi launcher in the menu, and replace

yoshimi

with the above

The issue appears to be related to FLTK, which the UI of Yoshimi is built from.

yoshimi now loads correctly on my testing machine. I expect it will on my Media machine (running stable), as well.

wow…and there is light…it works🏆. I’m…stunned by your insight. Thank you so much…

I owe you a lot. I make Ambient music, so this machine is a workhorse.

Again: thank you very very much…:hugs::heart_hands:
