"xrandr: Configure crtc 4 failed" when second display is plugged in (detected but not working)

I’m a new Manjaro user and installed it with the open source driver which didn’t detect anything that I plug into the HDMI port. So i reinstalled it with the proprietary driver.

I have an Hp Pavilion gaming laptop which has a ryzen 4600h and an nvidia 1650ti.
and here is my problem:

  • the open source driver didn’t detect the display at all no matter what i did (not on xrandr, nor using the “display” settings on the XFCE desktop environment
  • On the proprietary driver, the display is detected in the xrandr output like this:
 Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384

but the screen is still off, and executing xrandr --auto (or any xrandr command) shows an error

xrandr: Configure crtc 4 failed

and the screen on the display manager looks like this

and it stays disabled …

Pressing the enable button (the red one) will only cause this to happen

where in this window no matter what’s your choice the result will be the same and the screen is still disabled.

where i think the line saying

lspci: Unable to load libkmod resources: error -2

is the actual problem (it’s printed stderr not on stdout) .

The output of xrandr --listproviders is:

any advice???

Edit 2: I wanted to point out that running from a live USB or reinstalling manjaro on my computer didn’t change anything. I thought this information might be helpful in troubleshooting the problem or knowing it’s source.

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…

  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.

  3. In the future, when providing code/output, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text so that the output looks like this:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.

Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.

    instead of like this:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.`

(as that makes both our lives much easier)

  4. No need to do anything right now as I’m a moderator here on this site and have fixed it for you already. However, in the future I might not see your post so review my edits by pushing the orange pencil above the post I just fixed.

Has anyone found a solution? I have exactly the same problem and the same hardware (Lenovo ideapad gaming 3, Ryzen 5 4600H, GTX 1650) It was written here that the problem is that a discrete video card can handle HDMI. I will be grateful for the solution.

I found a solution for myself. I had to install optimus-manager to enable the discrete graphics card.
