XFCE Window Environment Freezing and Graphics Crashing

Hi!
I recently bought a framework 13 and after many tedious attempts to install an OS I got Manjaro to fully install on my system. However (just like when i was installing from live media) after booting, my entire system freezes with no response and sometimes even results in kernel panic. I have also had problems with what I believe is a gpu memory leak that crashes everything aswell.

My system specs are below and I hope that someone may be able to help.

CPU: AI 5 340 w/ Radeon 840m (4gb ram used as vram)
RAM: 16gb DDR5
SSD: WD 7100 1 TB NVME
XFCE: 4.2
GTK: 3.24.52
Kernel 7.2.0-rc2-1-
MANJARO (upgraded from 6.1.8)
WS: X11

Please provide the full output of inxi -zv8 as preformatted text (inside backticks with Ctrl+E). Moreover perhaps you find out something about the issue with journalctl or coredumpctl.

Apologies if i missed something or am late to reply, am heading out for a few hours for a party but will reply when back, thank you for helping already <3

Edit: From what i remember journalctl gave me no insight when i did check it, will try the other one once back

Without any error logs or stack traces it will be hard to guess what could be wrong. The only thing that currently comes to mind is to fall back to kernel version 7.1.3 since 7.2 isn’t released yet - it’s merely a release candidate.

coredumpctl

Mod edit: converted the output to a single block of code to make it more easy to read

I checked journal ctl but theres nothing. However even when frozen, it picks up my power button presses which means the system itself is running but visually nothings there. i just dont get it.

The only thing i can IMAGINE may be fkn with my system is that my powercord is 90W and the OEM charger you can buy from framework is 60W but I highly highly doubt thats the cause.

yakuake is a terminal and i thought it would be related to KDE - well it isn’t necessarily part of the Plasma desktop. Still you’re running XFCE. So let’s see coredumpctl info 21839.

In which case guake is a better choice than yakuake.

And ghostty is a more modern alternative.

sudo pacman -S ghostty

As @jofi mentioned, this kernel is only a release candidate.

Unless there is a specific requirement for using this kernel, I’d suggest reverting to kernel 6.18 (LTS) to re-evaluate whether the issue exists in a more predictable environment.

Xfce4-terminal has a drop-down option:

xfce4-terminal --drop-down

You can bind this command to a key using the “keys” menu in settings manager. In my case I bind this command to F12 or shift+F12 and it works very well (prefer this one to guake or yakuake)

Is there a reason why you are using the current mainline kernel instead of the stable or long-term ones? The mainline kernel is a “development” kernel and is likely to have bugs.

See: https://www.kernel.org/

Did the crashes also occur on version 6.1.8?
