[XFCE] Multiple bugs since july updates

Hello,
since beginning of July update I have these problems:

  • Computer is slower
  • Short freezes sometimes
  • few minutes of latency when I press the screen luminosity keys.
  • sound keys not functioning at all.
    other keys not or malfunctioning.
  • Most of the time nothing happening when I first press on network, sound and battery icons.
I have to wait one minute and press again then it works.
  • Redshift was not functioning any more it showed this box at start up:
    https://postimg.cc/image/alo6zpagt/
Now it partially works again thanks to this post:
    https://github.com/jonls/redshift/issues/158
but I lost the progressive setting.
  • Gis weather becomes invisible as soon as I get internet. (transparency parameters are ok)

I installed all updates available and tried different kernels.
I’m running Manjaro on a Thinkpad T470.

I found similar issues on 2 out of 3 computers

Have you checked any logs for errors?

I posted on the french forum and someone has the same issue with the sound keys on a T430

I didn’t, this is what I find following the tutorial (thanks),
I don’t get most of it but those lines looks suspicious for me:

I searched for a few of them on the web but didn’t find anything.

I posted a tutorial.
Have you ever read it? Or you are an expert? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

journalctl -p3 -b

Yeah I read it, sorry I certainly missed or misunderstood some things in it as I am not an expert and it’s 4am here.

It seems your impression about bugs/issues needs more justification. No visible errors from the above…

I tried the last thing on the tutorial, this is what I get:

Hello,
I tried with some live USBs of manjaro, gnome works, kde works and xfce works if I don’t update it.
I did a new install of Manjaro xfce, then restaured the packages thanks to this thread:

(sorry French thread, it didn’t worked well for the AUR packages)

I updated it and the same problems appeared, I did the same without the update and the only problem that remains is gis-weather invisibility (Redshift issue came back but I fixed it as previously).
I’ going to let it like that with updates disabled for a while.

This is the list of the updates I ignored:

I’m using xfce4-gtk3 and it seems normal on my end.

Latency, slowdowns and freezes. You using Intel for main driver and nvidia bumblebee?

No idea how much gtk3 I’m using, I couldn’t find a way to know. I’m on xfce 4.12.
I’m not using bumblebee, only open source drivers.

I wasn’t able to install any new software without getting a whole system update,
so I tried a last time before witching to gnome or kde (tried them and didn’t like), installed Bookworm (to read epub files) and let all the updates be done.
Everything seems to work again :star_struck:
(except Gis-weather but that’s not a big deal)
Thanks everyone :hugs:

What kind of worm is that? :exploding_head:

It’s to read epub files, mostly books.
