sudo mhwd -li

Currently running: 5.9.11-3-MANJARO (linux59)
The following kernels are installed in your system:

  • linux59

you can add linux5.10

sudo pacman -Sy
sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux510

After pacman updates key information, mhwd is automatically reinstalled. After this process a fallback option is created in grub.
If I choose the normal option in grub, then the problem occurs 50% probability.
I could not yet reproduce (from 10 try) the issue with fallback option.
After running a system upgrade, amdgpu is never loaded successfully. This is my 5th reinstall, and that is point where the system is finally broken, and usage of fallback boot option does not fix the problem anymore.

pacman -Syu

sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux510

I have switched to kernel version 5.10.2-2-MANJARO
it does no error so far. I have restarted the system 5 times.

have you added this on boot kernel : “amdgpu.dc=0”

Not yet, I will try and report results.

I have made a system update in order to break the system.

pacman -Syu

When it was already broken,
amdgpu.dc=0 added as kernel option results in “no tty”.

one or more of the package updates is causing this issue.

I just restarted and it seems I’ve run into similar issues. When I select Manjaro in GRUB my monitors show they’re active but display nothing. One time out of 5 restarts I managed to get it to display [FAILED] to load Light Manager or something of the sort but that was it. I can’t log in or get to TTY to fix it. Would like this resolved soon as I go back to work on Monday and have a online seminar tomorrow evening.

I just want a simple AUR based distro that works reliably but I’ve had a hell of a time with issues on reliability with Manjaro. Starting to wonder if it’s worth the repeated troubleshooting at this point :sleepy:

I have the same message.

Press Ctrl+Alt+F3 (or F2) to open the tty login.
And then follow the steps in the top article, I suppose.
Me, I wait a week or so until the causing packet in the latest update is fixed and do a clean reinstall.

Top article here being hunstree’s post or the red one about the Nvidea drivers?

The red one about obsolete Nvidia drivers with licence problems.

TTY usually works for me, it was only broken after using “amdgpu.dc=0” kernel option.

Downgrading to 2020/12/20 state of arch linux archive solved the issue. However this is not recommended.

So I ran all of the above in TTY to update my drivers to nvidia 340xx and now when I restart, my boot freezes at my motherboard manufacturers logo after selecting Manjaro in GRUB. I just am stuck on the MSI logo indefinitely. Perhaps I should have done another one besides 340xx, not sure exactly which is best for my system, but the combo of installing proper kernel headers and building the 340xx makepkgs gave me a new broken behavior.

Looked into my GPU and it seems I need the 455 drivers so I went ahead and installed those from TTY yet the problem persists

Okay I’ve tried a few things now and nothing has resolved the issue. I’m able to get into TTY but I’m never able to log into my manjaro, after selecting manjaro from the options in GRUB I’m left with the perpetual MSI logo. I’ve updated nvidia drivers to 455xx, I’ve run sudo pacman -Syu and there are no updates to be done, I’ve run sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux510 now after installing the 455 drivers didn’t fix the issue.

I’m now using paid vacation time from work to troubleshoot Manjaro for the second time in 3 weeks, very frustrating and already more expensive than many other OS licenses

Downgrading to 5.4 did not resolve the issue (unless sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux54 i snot the way to do that)

I now realize this thread isn’t the best place for me, since I have a Nvidia 2060 super GPU

Try Ctrl+Alt+F2 and login to tty
then sudo lightdm and authentificate
Then you should see the normal login screen.

I figured out that due to some race condition, my VGA driver cannot be loaded sometimes. However, I can load the driver from tty, and then lightdm starts.
