Wireless mouse stopped working

Basic Information:
I’m running 6.18.32-1, also plasma 6.6.5 and i’m on Wayland.
I did pacman -Syu before all, too. So it should all be up-to-date.
Also tried it with sddm restart.

Hello,

since today my computer mouse that is plugged in via USB isn’t working even though i’ve put in new batteries, I have installed

local/libinput 1.31.2-1
Input device management and event handling library
local/xf86-input-libinput 1.5.0-1 (xorg-drivers)
Generic input driver for the X.Org server based on libinput

but still, when I type libinput, it turns red, meaning: libinput zsh: command not found: libinput
The mouse is also recognized as Bus XXX Device XXX: ID Logitech, Inc. M185 compact wireless mouse

Please tell me if you need more information :slight_smile:

Hi @whitesnickers, the output of inxi -zv8 may be useful (please remember proper code formatting).

Have you tried booting from a Live USB to see if it works there, to help rule out an issue with the mouse hardware?

The libinput package is a low level library and doesn’t provide an executable so that’s to be expected. See @scotty65’s post.

Edit:

It’s a wireless mouse, USB mice don’t need batteries. I assume you mean the dongle is plugged into USB. I’ve changed the title of the thread to reflect this.

Probably a silly question, but have you checked the batteries are installed properly?

The libinput command is contained in the libinput-tools package:

❯ pamac list -f libinput-tools | grep /bin/
/usr/bin/libinput

Confusing.

My mouse charges via usb-C, when turned off it also works wired… but not all of them work wired (i.e. cable is charging only).

If ever there’s some suspicion, I can plug it in to another machine - wired, wirelessly, or pair bluetooth and test that… and I have my old mouse I can plug in to test my machine.

You must properly test and verify your mouse condition before looking at the OS… and you kinda forgot to mention anything about the mouse.

By the way, if you’re really on wayland, installing the Xorg package obviously doesn’t make any sense. Just saying. But provide info first, especially inxi and the model of the mouse.

Install solaar – a Linux management application for Logitech keyboard, mice, etc. – there is also logitune which I believe is similar, though I haven’t tried it, personally.

Solaar has the convenience of being available via the official Manjaro repositories:

sudo pacman -S solaar

There may be settings/features of the mouse which you can enable/disable or otherwise tweak, that may potentially promote some improvement.

I hope this is helpful.

Regards.

@Teo
You’re right. Oops, my mistake!

@Ben
Thank yout for the kind of obvious idea, but i didn’t get it. I’ll try it on a different computer first. I’m not sure if i have another mouse though. Also if it functions differently it’s not really a proof right?

@scotty65
That’s what i have found out, too. But libinput-tools as a command doesn’t work either.

@dmt
You were right to change this. That’s what i’ve meant. And yeah i have checked the batteries (it’s fine you never know

@BG405
The z filters sensitive information, right? I would provide it then.

@soundofthunder
Thank you. I have installed it, but i don’t have any listed device.

Regards.

Yes, it does. :wink: Same as the long-form --filter.

Dear helpers,
it was the wrong dongle. I’m so sorry for waisting your time. Somehow the exact same dongle got into my room and i didn’t catch it and took it as if it was the one from the mouse i use.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the extremely nice messages. I really appreciate it.

@soundofthunder
Now we know it was all my mistake i will take a look at solaar. Thank you again for the recommendation!

Here’s a little tip: get a paint marker with a fine one (tip) and mark the dongles accordingly. I’ve been caught out with the assortment of dongles I use. :wink:

I used to use correction fluid (Tipp-Ex) until they dropped 1:1:1 Trichlorethane (sp) from the formula, so it doesn’t bond with plastic any more … and is practically useless for its intended purpose. :sad_but_relieved_face:

That’s the package that contains the command libinput, as @scotty65 already said.

Having the wrong dongle does not qualify as a Solution.

While recognising your mistake resolved your issue, a different dongle will likely not help others searching for a solution to why their “Wireless mouse stopped working”.
