Wired Network "Connect Automatically" does not work when hot-plugging

For some reason, connecting an Ethernet cable when already booted does not work: Wired network is not detected & cannot be connected. In the settings panel it shows ‘cable unplugged’.

Booting up with the Ethernet cable already connected it connects automatically, no problem.

Can you help me I troubleshoot this?
