Wifi settings window not showing wifi list

I have a use network adapter plugged in and have no trouble connecting to other wifi endpoints using wpa_supplicant command in the terminal.

But I can’t get the wifi list in the Settings in desktop. It’s just empty like this:

The problem occurred after a lately update.

I am using the driver mt7601u-dkms-git provided in the AUR.

ifconfig -a can recognize the interface:

How can I get the Settings to show the wifi list? I will post more information if needed.

Not sure whether it’s relevant: I am able to list all the wifi using iw dev wlp0s20f0u1 scan, but I cannot do that by nmcli dev wifi, which outputs an empty list. And ip -br addr says wifi is down, even if I enabled it by ifconfig wlp0s20f0u1 up.

  1. Please read this:

and press the three dots below your post and press the :pencil2: to give us more information so we can see what’s really going on.
Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.

I found that there was a line in NetworkManager configfile /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf:

# Configuration file for NetworkManager.
# See "man 5 NetworkManager.conf" for details.

[keyfile]
unmanaged-devices=interface-name:wlp0s20f0u1

which means the wifi adapter is not managed by NetworkManager so that explains why there is no wifi list in the Settings even if the adapter is working. I have no idea how there was a line of config in that file, but problems solved.

I finally figured it out. When running create_ap in the terminal, if the adapter is managed by NetworkManager, create_ap will mark the adapter unmanaged! Here is an example output by create_ap:

WARN: Your adapter does not fully support AP virtual interface, enabling --no-virt
