IFtop shows a connect to mail.manjaro.org once in a while, also, nethogs reports 176.9.38.148:80. Any explanation?

That is probably due to the fact that several services run off that ip-address and by nature the lookup only returns the first value for the ip lookup.
Different services can easily be hosted on the same IP but either a lookup or a reverse lookup may return different results.
Also - a rnds which is often required to establish the identity of a mail service - may be influenzing the results as you can have only one rdns record for any given host name IP address .
It then makes sense to use the most important hostname in the rdns lookup.
