Welcome and introduce yourself - 2026

Hi,

Software engineer from the UK, using linux as my daily driver since ~2000 or so. Manjaro is my preferred distribution for anything with hardware so new that Debian can’t cope :sweat_smile:

Hey, everyone.

I’m using Manjaro as my daily driver since Oct. 2025. I’ve been using Linux for my job for probably four years now (mostly RHEL). First distro I ever dabbled with was Debian and I had to use Solaris occasionally (which is Unix, I know, but the basic commands are pretty much the same, so I’m counting it). I have installed Arch once on a crappy, old laptop I had, because I wanted to use it as a small server and I didn’t need a DE for that. Also I’m a happy Steam Deck owner, so I had no worries with ditching Windows for good on my desktop.

I picked Manjaro becuase I wanted something Arch-based, but not as bare bones and a bit more convenience than Arch. And I couldn’t be happier. I’m using KDE Plasma, which is very intuitive, nice to look at and has a lot of available plugins.

So, yeah. Again, hi everyone.

Welcome to the Manjaro forum;
We hope your experience will be worthwhile.

:+1: (Unix)

GNU/Linux is a UNIX too. :stuck_out_tongue:

At least two distributions — Huawei Euler OS and Inspur K-UX — have in years passed been officially certified with the UNIX® trademark by the Open Group, albeit that such certification is only valid for one specific kernel version, and one specific hardware architecture, and so both of these distributions have in the meantime lost their certification again.

The validation test for UNIX® certification costs thousands of US dollars, and thus it is rare for any GNU/Linux distribution to apply for certification, especially given that Linux® is itself also a registered trademark, and by now carries more weight in the server rooms than UNIX®.

:wink:

SunOS/Solaris was my favourite of all the commercial *NIXs. (And I was forced to learn a dozen or so, starting with my first job.)

I actually had a lot of fun with it. Solaris Zones (containers) and ZFS in the early 2000s, it was truly ahead of its time.

You used it from a user perspective, or server/admin?

We lowercase everything except for UNIX for a reason. :smile:

Well, yes. UNIX® (in all-uppercase) is a trademark, while Unix (uppercase initial, the rest in lowercase) is the name of a proprietary operating system. :wink:

Hi!

I’ve been using Linux for a very long time now. For most of that time, I’ve used Arch Linux. Lately, though, I’ve been bothered by the frequent update issues there. They hardly ever check which packages need to be updated together anymore, and it seems like no one tests them beforehand either.

That’s why I switched to Manjaro a few months ago. I much prefer the block updates with accompanying notes under “Announcements.”

I use Cinnamon as my desktop environment, which I consider a good middle way between GNOME and KDE. It’s a bit sad that the Cinnamon community has become so quiet here. The current installation ISO is now over a year old.

Hello and welcome to the Manjaro Community, @Dieter9 ! :vulcan_salute:

It’s about a decade for me now since I switched to Linux. Never looked back. Of course, that final nail in the coffin was when I plugged my scanner in and it resulted in an almost instant Blue Screen of Death™.

I couldn’t be bothered to fix Windows 7 again so switched to Mint, literally overnight, having given it a spin shortly before, on a netbook and (experimenting with) a tablet. A couple of years later, after I’d settled on KDE Plasma as my DE, when the Mint team decided to drop the Plasma edition I moved over here, to Manjaro. :smiley:

Hello @Dieter9

the section with the community images on the main page wasn’t updated. However, there are newer ISOs see

@Dieter9

However, keep in mind that if any given Community edition is falling behind, one only needs to get past the initial update/sync after the OS is installed, and Manjaro is up to date.

Thanks for the information. That’s exactly how I set up Manjaro Cinnamon a while ago, and it’s been running mostly without any problems until now.

Hi all. I have been a Linux user since 1999. I have used Manjaro in the past (about 3 years ago) and have come back to it as my daily driver as of Sept. 28 2026. I am having a very good experience, so far. Had to switch to the 6.18 LTS kernel for stability reasons.

Hello @drmart and welcome (back?) to the Manjaro Community! :vulcan_salute: (I don’t know if you’ve been a Forum member before).

As for kernels, myself and others here typically tend to recommend having an LTS Kernel on the system. :wink:

As @BG405 said, always keep one LTS kernel installed. It gives you a stable point to roll back to. 7.3 looks likely to be the next LTS
