Welcome and introduce yourself - 2024

Nice one!

Iā€™ll add it to the list with all the other names people have already given our distribution. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Hello everybody!
Iā€™ve been trying to switch to Linux for a couple years but every time I tried different distros and desktop environments Iā€™d run into an annoying issue and go back to Windows. I even tried Manjaro a couple years ago but there were still issues that I couldnā€™t get around. Now most of the problems seem to have gone away, but there were still some things I had to manually fix due to my setup requirements (4k + 1080p monitor, Nvidia + Intel setup, mainly gaming focused). If anyone is interested I have a small document that lists all the fixes I needed to make to get it running smoothly.

Hi everyone!

I signed up because of the ā€œIs Manjaro the right distribution for youā€ tutorial and itā€™s suggestion that Iā€™ll need to keep an eye on the update Announcements.

Iā€™ve been using Ubuntu for a while and though it was time for me to develop a better understanding of my home pc and the type of linux I want to have on it. I thought trying an Arch-based distro (Iā€™m not brave enough for a command line install yet) would broaden my horizons.

Donā€™t worry too much, but certainly youā€™re in for a shockā€¦ I just asked someone why they would bother installing Kate or KWrite as Snap or Flatpaks - it turns out that using Ubuntu (LTS) they canā€™t just install (as we can) 24.08.1 without using Flatpak or Snap, because their repositories have a really ancient version instead.

Take time to work out snapshots, backups, and ease yourself in there.

Indeed. And:

For pure Arch, for now, maybe, but for installing packages itā€™s not hard, once you get used to it, especially as e.g. Kate is already included (at least on the full KDE .ISO, Iā€™d expect it to be there on the minimal one too) and will be kept up to date when you do sudo pacman -Syu.

Any questions, there are people here happy to help.

Thatā€™ll teach me for posting at 1am lol. Iā€™ve been using apt for nearly as long as I used Ubuntu. It was the whole OS installing, I was too chicken for

This was one of my motivators, Snap and Flatpack used to be presented as options but now, as you say, theyā€™re pretty much the only way. I put a pause on my OS updates until one of my weirder pieces of software could update (as it wouldnā€™t work on the new OS update) and the various package managers started getting stroppy. Things broke in a ā€œand now you donā€™t have a functioning Kernalā€ kinda way and I figured nowā€™s the time to scoot over to a new distro and see if I can learn a bit.

Hello everyone, I installed Manjaro XFCE because plain old arch is hard to maintain and Manjaro is very user friendly while still allowing me to use arch.
Hoping to learn more about linux and fixes to any issues I face with the help of this forum

Hello! I am somewhat new to Manjaro. I know Windows more than Linux.

Welcome aboard. I made the switch an cannot believe how far Linux has come and so far Manjaro has been an incredibly pleasant experience. New software, very large software library, so well put together and simple to use. All my Steam games seem to play just fine. Nothing but positive. So thankful to the folks who put this together. Hope your experience is as good as mine has been. I even bought some of their merch and started advertising for them. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. I got so tired of the new features in Windows that are nothing other than spyware. I had enough.

Hello,
i just switched a week ago to first head to manjaro and i used manjaro slightly before i think i used linux mint too tad slightly then retretaed into windows
installed it and messing around switching around 3-4 distros installing packages commands using linux learned slightly better and i returned to manjaro
also i reinstalled windows from debian my last distro to fiddle around before returning to manjaro
lets just say compared to linux windows lacks in performance Department even i have nvme drive as main drive and still loaded damn low so after toying with windows i returned
it seems screwing around and finding out its the best way to learn linux greatest
(and installing one distro 5 times because i didnt get the desktop-envoirement change)
so iā€™m here installed steam firefox dowlanoaded baldurs gate 3 going to dowlanoad mods to bg3 and chill about it and try to tinker around wine a bit
i guess to say iā€™m here ?

Hi @ all,
I am a Manjaro user for a couple of years and I am still very happy with it. The Manjaro + Arch community is great.
Before I was on Debian and at some point, I even used Ubuntu.
I am here for looking a around and actually being able to get some help if I happen to be really stuck with something which does not happen as often.

Hi my name is Art.

I switched to Linux a few years ago. Started with a System76 Laptop and PopOS. Itā€™s a great OS to start with but I found some apps (neovim) at the time were outdated. I needed something with a more up-to-date repository.

So I switched to Arch. Really enjoyed it. Learned a tremendous amount going that route but somethings would talk me hours to figure out. Finally got frustrated while out of town travelling and couldnā€™t resolve something I thought should be fairly simple and decided I needed something a bit less time consuming and easier to work with for me.

I really liked Archā€™s rolling release, pacman and a host of other things and decided to try Manjaro. Almost everything worked immediately on day 1. I was amazed and impressed. So glad I made the switch. Grateful for all to gave their time to make it such a success.

Hallo

Iā€™ve done the honours for you:

Hello

Iā€™m Uwe and an absolute Linux newbie.
In the past few weeks, Iā€™ve been intensely exploring Linux and checking out various distributions.
I came across Zorin through Linux Mint and tried out this version. It didnā€™t really convince me.
Then I watched several videos about Manjaro, and Iā€™m going to install it today. My PC is equipped with Windows 10, and the hardware doesnā€™t allow for an upgrade to Windows 11.
Iā€™ve never really had major issues with Windows, but after everything Iā€™ve heard about Windows 11, I donā€™t want that system.
So, Iā€™m trying to dive into the world of Linux.
Many thanks for this forum and so many helpful people.
Best regards

Hi all!

Basilis here, codename tsapi, from Thessaloniki, northern Greece.

I am a computer enthusiast since the 80s and a linux enthusiast since approx 2000. I have several debian server installations and am currently using Manjaro as the distro for my PC (workstation) at home and at work and for my laptops. Have been using arch for years, but currently (and the past few years) prefer Manjaro as it saves me the hassle and time of polishing things. Currently using KDE but have used several DEs over the time.

Glad to be here! Hope to be able to give something back to the manjaro team and the community! :slightly_smiling_face:
