Weird Update Thing

During sudo pacman -Syu I get the following:
Many lines later of the same stuff as below:

error: could not read db 'extra' (Damaged tar archive)
warning: lua-sec: unknown key 'luase//wikl' in sync database
warning: lua-sec: unknown key '%PACKAGER%Ddaurnimato </daurnimatoe@archlinux.org>' in sync database
error: could not read db 'extra' (Damaged tar archive)
warning: lua-sec: unknown key 'luase//wikl' in sync database

…thousands of more lines of the same.

It hasn’t yet downloaded or done anything, it just tries to read the databases, I suppose. Pamac did the same thing (presumably, difficult to say since it doesn’t show output during boot) for some minutes as the system booted up just prior to writing this.

Oh, now it stopped writing text and asks me a question I don’t know the answer to:

warning: lua-sec: unknown key '%PACKAGER%Ddaurnimato </daurnimatoe@archlinux.org>' in sync database
error: could not read db 'extra' (Damaged tar archive)
:: The following package cannot be upgraded due to unresolvable dependencies:
      lib32-libjpeg-turbo

Is the package a standard package that cannot be upgraded because of the corrupt tar archive and the extra db problem above, or can I just skip this and solve any issues regarding that package later?

The last thing I installed on the system was mkdocs from official (IIRC). I don’t think I installed anything else recently.

And what does this bit about the error: could not read db 'extra' (Damaged tar archive) mean exactly? The extra database seem to be a db file of some sort (unknown to me what it is), but pacman complains about a tar archive. What goes on with that? Is it an installed package archive of some sort that is corrupt? Or what?

Any ideas how to solve this? I’ll leave the pacman Terminal prompt open for now, so if there are any answers regarding that, I might go further then.

If you need any other info, let me know. I don’t know what would be beneficial for any problem solving at this time.

Thanks.

Hi, a bit of system info would help e.g. inxi -zv8.

Having checked re. lib32-libjpeg-turbo, I don’t think this in itself is a system-critical package:

pamac search lib32-libjpeg-turbo
lib32-libjpeg-turbo 3.1.0-1 [Installed] multilib
JPEG image codec with accelerated baseline compression and decompression multilib

… and

But going down the rabbit hole, it looks like there are a number of "sub-"dependencies of these.

I found this on the Forum from a couple of years back, it should help:

sudo pacman-mirrors --api --protocol http && sudo pacman-mirrors --fasttrack 5 && sudo pacman -Syyu

… I wouldn’t normally recommend the second y with pacman but it won’t hurt in this case.

Thanks. Just some questions before I try yy: what do I do with the currently running upgrade session? Bail out now? (usually not recommended, I’ve read) Or wait until I get the question whether to continue with actually upgrade everything? And, what should I do with any following “can’t upgrade”? Answer “no” to everything, or “yes”?

Here’s inxi:

If installation hasn’t started, you should be able to quit with CTRL + C.

If it is already installing (which doesn’t appear to be the case here), be sure to have a USB stick on hand with the Manjaro installer on it, since the upgrade process, once started, will first remove (at least pointers to) the old kernels, etc. which will require chroot-ing into the system to fix the kernel(s) and GRUB,

First check for sufficient disk space df -h / and then re-run the updates.

Note: I’d always have that USB stick on hand in any case!

It does look like there should be enough space judging by the inxi results, but is getting rather full!

I was on the first step of the update, not having reached the final question yet. Okay, I’ll try yy now. If I don’t return with a verdict, you know the reason. ; )

Edit:

Yes, I am in the process of cleaning old stuff up. But it takes time, I don’t want to just cram everything onto some external drive in an unordered state, because I know I will never get around to cleaning it up. ; )

Okay, I’m back. Got one issue as a result from running the upgrade in a tty.

Everything went on as it should, but there was an unknown error:

" (4/40) Reloading user manager configuration..."

That went on for “ages” and then:

See "systemctl user1000@.service" and "journalctl -xeu user@1000.service"
error: command failed to execute correctly

From journalctl:

dbus-:1.2-org.kde.KSplash@0.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

I am not entirely sure this it at the exact time of the upgrade, since I logged in to test things, but it seems to me there is a service running for showing some kind of splash screen, really…?

Anyway, the system seems to run fine. The icon for the available upgrades (that red thing with an exclamation point, or gray check box, depending on what is available) is missing. This seems to have become the norm after upgrades these days. Was the same the last time also, but a reboot solved that.

Edit:
Yes, same with that red “upgrade’s available” thing this time also, rebooting made it come back. Also, it wasn’t an exclamation point. It was an i. I turned it up side down in my mind. ; )
