Weird GUI behavior (window focus) in Plasma Manjaro since September

Since around September, I’ve been experiencing strange GUI issues in my Plasma environment on Manjaro (latest stable release) with a laptop that has a functional touch screen. The problems happen frequently — usually after using the system for a few hours — and fall into two main categories:

  1. Window becomes click-through.
    a. When I bring a window (Window A) to the front and place the mouse over it, the cursor shape changes according to the window behind it (Window B). Clicking in this situation interacts with Window B instead of Window A.
    b. I can temporarily fix this by locking and unlocking the system (Super + L).
  2. Automatic clicking at the top-left corner
    a. It feels like there are frequent automatic clicks at the top-left corner of the screen.
    b. When a window is maximized, it quickly becomes un-maximized, as if its title bar was double-clicked.
    c. When no window is maximized, the desktop’s top-left icon gets selected.
    d. Pressing the Super key opens the application menu, but it soon collapses automatically.
    e. The only way I’ve found to stop this is to restart the system.

Mod Edit: Fixed formatting in “system info”

At least this one looks to be hardware related.

In case it’s linked to Plasma, you could create a new user and verify if the issue persists. if not, then the “normal” user could have some config issues. Also, you could try to clean the cache.

My thought as well. Maybe some screen cleaning spray got in?

I’d suggest disabling the touch-screen function via the settings — I don’t have a touch-screen myself so I can’t see what options are there, but I would assume this is possible.

Since this is my main PC for daily work, and the issue only happens after using it for a few hours, I will try disabling the touch screen first to see if the second issue still occurs.
Thanks for your suggestions, I’ll report back with the results.

Seems that after disabling the touch screen, everything works well. Maybe my touch screen is WASTED when accidentally dropped it on the ground in May this year.

… here we are, sorry for you.

If you actually need the touchscreen, hopefully a replacement won’t be too expensive (and hopefully will be as easy to swap as on my Lenovo T440, which also had a little accident — screen still worked but when I clipped the lid with my sleeve whilst sitting down, POOF — when I took the bezel off, the thing literally fell apart).
