VLC from Official Repositories Freezes System

Sure, the storage space is not what bothers me. I’m more concerned with the principle: I uninstall something that I don’t use because it’s been causing problems for years and then it’s foisted on me again without being asked.

Yeah, I think the problem is fixed now after I deleted the config files ~/.config/vlc .

Interestingly I forgot to try this before as I also tried to modify the system config file as I found some solutions on other posts saying to modify the output video to XVideo output (XCB) or VDPAU output in the preferences interface but as I can’t even open VLC I tried to modify the config file (I figured this out by modifying the setting from flatpak version and found out this is the setting that is modified in the config file changed to vout=xcb_xv or vout=vdpau_display) but that didn’t fix the problem.

No problem at all.

Thanks everyone for the help, the problem is fixed by deleting the old config files rm -rf ~/.config/vlc
