Some Games just won't open on steam

I would like to start by saying I am fairly new to linux, definitely new to these forums.

I have been trying to play Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga, and it just won’t open. I also have this problems with Black Ops III, but I do not have this issue with Raft. Those are the only games I have really tired playing so I figured I’d include them.

I have been trying it fix this for a few days now and well I can’t seem to find any solutions that works.

Here is information about my system

I have tried Proton 7.0-1, Proton Experimental, and GE-Proton7-14 and got the same results each time.

Do you use steam-native? Apparently you have missing some dependencies to run this game. You should use steam-manjaro which shouldn’t have this problem.

It is because of the ownership. You need a Linux Filesystem like EXT4 for full compatibility with proton/wine. NTFS ACL works through “permission translation layer” which is set at the mount options.

Hmm I am actually using steam-manjaro but I’ll check the dependencies not sure how I’d end up missing any

Since I am not really sure how to go about the hard drive thing I just installed the game on the same drive as my OS and it still didn’t open but I got this

Ah yeah I see it now. This variable disables vulkan completely and therefore uses OpenGL. OpenGL depends on native directx, which I believe is not included in proton. You have to install directx and all native necessary dependencies yourself. That can be done by a proton wrapper:

protontricks 920210 d3dx9 d3dx10 d3dx11_42 d3dx11_43 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_46 d3dcompiler_47

No idea what this game actually needs, but if you disable vulkan layer here, I guess you have tinker that way.

Anyway… your GeForce GTX 1660 should be able to run it with DXVK, therefore it is not needed to add: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1

Also possible: downgrade the nvidia driver to 470xx with mhwd. That could be an incompatibility of some sort.

I had a friend walk me through changing the permissions of my drive and I got rid of the launch arguments and got it all running

Would you like to share your steps with other users who use search engines? Thanks.
