Video acceleration on old imac

Though I can install on a 2008 vintage intel imac it does not seem that video acceleration works on the old radeon 2600 gpu. I suspect that support no longer exists for this gpu. Is that right?

This may help:

iMac Aluminum - ArchWiki

The Arch wiki has got some more pages on Apple hardware
and on ATI Radeon GPU’s as well

Someone here might be able to assist when system info is provided:

Perhaps you will have more success using the Linux 6.19 kernel - a better support of older AMD GPUs has been advertised for that kernel.

Thanks for the help. But the truth is I mislead you. I meant I could install linux on the imac, and I had put mint on and video did not work. When I actually took the trouble to install manjaro (not much trouble of course) the video appears to work flawlessly (on only a few tests of 1080p video).

So my apologies for wasting your time, but the links you gave are still very valuable.

OMG
indeed
