Vega56: Third Monitor glitching with kernels newer than 5.9

Hi, today i switched to a amd vega 56 from an rtx 2060, installed the drivers, and removed the nvidia ones of course. Everything is smoother now than with the 2060 and im finally not experiencing any framedrops while using the system.

BUT: I am using three Monitors , 2 dp, 1 hdmi. The two dp ones are working but the third one is just glitching, that meens it shows up in the settings for a few seconds, then removes itself for a few seconds and so on…

Here is what i tried:
booting several distros in live and installed version on a second partition:

distro working in live? working when installed?
win 10 N/A y
Manjaro gnome (kernel 5.10) n n
Manjaro KDE (current system)(5.10) n n
Ubuntu 21.04 n N/A
Ubuntu 20.04 (5.4) y y
Ubuntu 20.10 (5.8) y n
Suse tumbleweed (5.12) N/A n
Fedora 34 (5.11) n n

After realising only sucess was with a older kernel, i tried different kernels on my main system (manjaro kde 5.10

I tried everything avaible through mhwd from 5.4 upwards:

  • 5.4 working, but my motherboards ethernet controller not supported (same on ubuntu 20.04)
  • 5.9_rt working
  • everything above not working, even tried 5.13_rc1

Is there a possibility to install a 5.9 kernel non rt? don’t really wanna use the “slower”/“throttled” rt version?

Also there seems to be a bug in the kernel from 5.10 upwards?
Because it happens on the other distros as well

Run with the 5.9 RT and file a bug with the kernel development team for your WiFi adapter on the 5.4 branch and then switch to that once it gets implemented???

:sob:

Well, now i have the 5.9 rt kernel running for two days and i don’t really notice the difference, so i could live with it if everything works.
But i discovered another dealbreaker:
When the pc is booting the monitors always work,
if the monitors turn off after a while or i sleep the pc and then wake up, the 3rd Monitor is then always glitching on 5.9rt until reboot.
Tried this a few times and the results seem consistent…
I think i will contact the kernel maintainers with my issue.
But i wonder why i couldn’t find anyone with the same problem, maybe the gpu has a problem?
But i won’t pay a ridiculous 600€ for a used vega56 just to test…

Any other ideas how to make sure that it’s not the gpu?

Nah! It’s your bad vibes!

:joy:

They know more than me!
