User manjaro's password not working in latest minimal gnome live installer

I’m being prompted to log in running the minimal 64-bit installer from USB. It’s not accepting the password ‘manjaro’ for user manjaro. I’ve clicked the eye icon to check what I typed is correct, and also tried from a text tty.

I’ve installed Manjaro a number of times and been using it for over a year now, and many distros before that. I installed an earlier 20.2 on this machine as a trial and never used it, and decided to update my installer after noticing a new one came out recently. As a side note, I don’t recall even being required to log in after running the install image.

I just successfully logged in as root in tty2 and changed the manjaro user’s password. Then tried logging into the GUI installer. The password is still not accepted.
