I’m experiencing an issue with the update icon (shield symbol) in the system tray of KDE Plasma 6 on Manjaro. Normally, the icon turns red when updates are available. However, after installing updates using Manjaro’s built-in update manager, the icon often remains red, even though no updates are left.
Interestingly, if I run sudo pacman -Syu in the terminal, the icon updates correctly and turns white again.
Does anyone know why this happens and how to make the icon update properly after using Manjaro’s update tool?
If you are using something other than the update tool the notifier is associated with, then this is to be expected.
Which notifier do you have? (e.g Pamac, which I think is default for recent installations).
What I do (I use Octopi Notifier) is to right-click that and “check updates”; otherwise it will not change until its next scheduled check (in my case, once per day — I haven’t changed the default setting).
I’m using Pamac, which I believe is the default notifier for Manjaro. I see, so the issue is likely that Pamac’s notifier doesn’t immediately recognize that updates have been installed unless I manually trigger a check.
Right-clicking and selecting “Check for Updates” seems like a good workaround—I’ll give that a try! Do you know if there’s a way to make Pamac refresh its status automatically right after an update?
Not sure about being able to get it to auto-check; may be possible with a “hook” but I don’t currently know enough about that to make a proper suggestion.
I run ‘Refresh Databases’ (in the Pamac GUI menu) immediately after any update has completed, as part of the post update process. That updates the ‘Updates Available’ Icon.
It’s also a good idea to set (e.g. for Stable) Stable Updates - Manjaro Linux Forum to “Watching”, especially if you’re going to be on the Forum regularly. (Top right corner of the page).
I’d check the latest Update thread anyway, before proceeding.
I often see the announcements well before my notifier’s daily check.
For what it’s worth, when updating with octopi and using the octopi notifier, the notifier icon will immediately turn green after the transaction is completed.
