Kernel 6.17 is now EOL

[DRAFT] NVIDIA 590 driver drops Pascal support

With the update to driver version 590, the NVIDIA driver no longer supports Pascal (GTX 10xx) GPUs or older.

Impact: Updating the NVIDIA packages on systems with Pascal, Maxwell, or older cards will fail to load the driver, which may result in a broken graphical environment.

Intervention required for Pascal/older users: Users with GTX 10xx series and older cards must switch to a legacy driver to maintain support:

  • Install the official linuxXXX-nvidia-575xx, linuxXXX-nvidia-570xx, or related DKMS packages.

Python 3.14 info

:information_source: You will need to rebuild any AUR Python packages that install files to site-packages or link to libpython3.13.so.

Print a list of of packages that have files in /usr/lib/python3.13/ :

pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python3.13/

Rebuild them all at once:*

pamac build $(pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python3.13)

Use rebuild-detector to see if anything else needs to be rebuilt:

 checkrebuild

* It’s recommended to clean your build cache first with pamac clean --build-files

Clean update on the Unstable machine I set up yesterday. There were 6 packages in my update. Given the Majority of issues seem to revolve around nVidia, I did not expect any issues.

Looking forward to the wine package update.

Wine update just hit the repository.

/usr/share/kconf_update/breath2tobreath.upd defined Version=5 but Version=6 was expected

/usr/share/kconf_update/breath2tobreath.upd

Version=5
Id=Breath2ToBreath
Script=breath2tobreath

is this correct ?

kioworker[15395]: "Could not load plugin from /usr/lib/qt6/plugins/kf6/thumbcreator/appimagethumbnail.so: Die Bibliothek /usr/lib/qt6/plugins/kf6/thumbcreator/appimagethumbnail.so kann nicht geladen werden: libappimage.so.1.0: Kann die Shared-Object-Datei nicht öffnen: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden"

install libappimage solved

patchutils (0.4.4-1) and bash-completion have files conflict
patchutils: /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/interdiff already exists in the file system (owner — bash-completion)

not yet in manjaro repository

If CachyOS & Fedora can do it, why can’t we? :grin:

The KCM module has an Autologin option: System Settings > Security & Privacy > Login Screen

oh i see thx a lot

Will themes and settings for SDDM continue to work for plasma-login? I didn’t find any information about it

Configuration

Plasma Login is configured by users through /etc/plasmalogin.conf, which overrides distro-provided defaults at /usr/lib/plasmalogin/defaults.conf. In managed scenarios, the latter file can be modified to set a default wallpaper or login session, with the settings module disabled via Kiosk.

i ask about SDDM themes on QML and settings like

[General]
DisplayServer=wayland
GreeterEnvironment=QT_WAYLAND_SHELL_INTEGRATION=layer-shell

[Wayland]
CompositorCommand=kwin_wayland --drm --no-lockscreen --no-global-shortcuts --locale1

I did not find any information about compatibility and whether plasma-login uses wayland by default.

and this package does not contain /usr/lib/plasmalogin/defaults.conf configuration file

I’m not sure about specific settings, but custom themes can no longer be used. Instead, it uses Plasma’s wallpaper plugins, so you can set a custom image for the login screen:

It’s sad, I liked some of them.

what is more important is which other DE/WM can it start? maybe no one needs more DE because plasma is a handful, but i would like for it to support some WM atleast

suggestion: can we move the plasma-login-manager chit chat to its own separate thread
