telegram-desktop version 2.5.6.r7 has broken notifications count in system tray icon on KDE
downgrading to 2.5.5.r1 solved the problem.

Here is the simple solution - it’s a wrong setting in Qt5-settings
You have to set the same symbol-theme as in your DE

Too many problems
It seems simple, but I think I’m not competent enough.
I downloaded qt5ct and tried to use it following this instruction but I had no luck, just had to force shutdown the laptop after I created the .profile and tried log-out log-in
Maybe since plasma is a qt5 desktop already maybe I don’t need the qt5ct
Also if it might be important when I do echo $QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME like said in your bug report it gives me an empty result

BTW, I’ve never seen notification count in the system tray icon. The count is present, however, on the icon of Telegram’s launcher in Latte:
As openminded said I’m using KDE plasma. Also in my case the tray icon is present, what is missing is only the notification count
Are we using the same DE? I always had the notification count and it worked very well. If it works in cinnamon and with latte maybe telegram it’s missing some update from plasma frameworks…

Remember the older “3 clicks problem while PC boots up” [Unstable Update] 2020-12-22 - ICU, Firefox, Removal of Qt4 - #79 by alven problem, which starts on every 5.11-rcX build at least from “rc2”? Current “rc5-1” wihout alsa module has the same issue as all previous 5.11-rcX, so by that lack now we know that the source of that “3 clicks” is not the currently absent module.
After I re-plug the DAC into USB of PC I hear the same clicks but only 2 and display shows different types of input signal DSD/PCM.
Probably somehow an initialization of the Topping D50s DAC became audible now. It is brand new behaviour of highly audible initialization which was inaudible on all 5.X kernel family before 5.11 and starts at least from 5.11-rc2 (5.11-rc1 was not tested by me).

Meantime the 5.10.10-1 was installed and PC was rebooted into it.
No audible clicks: there are 1-2 DSD/PCM change shown on DAC’s display but it was with delay of 1.5-2 between switches. May be fast switches by somewhat inside of linux511 makes the switches highly audible with clicks.

Try a different theme for the DE - see if the icon appears again.
I tried a couple, I’m using Breeze by default but I tried with Breath2 and Oxygen; and also Default for GTK apps, but it doesn’t change.
I noticed that in the section “notifications” in telegram there isn’t anymore the option “use native notifications”
I downgraded to the older version, since it works correctly. This is the output of telegram-desktop-2.5.5.r1 (the latest working version) when I launch from terminal

I updated PulseEffects to 5.0 but it didn’t work with the meta package manjaro-pulse, so I installed PulseEffects legacy 4.8.4 from AUR.
