I’m running unstable and since the recent Mesa 17.0 and Xorg-* package updates, I can’t boot.

You can check journal log, looking for kernel error messages.
Do you have also an integrated graphic card? You can use this to boot your graphic environment.
What’s in the file in /etc/X11/mhwd.d/*.conf ?
Also, a search gave this among other results:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=220746
journalctl gives me two errors:
Kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: DRM: EVO timeout
Kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: DRM: base-0: timeout
In the mhwd.d folder there is two configs:
nvidia.conf.nvidia-xconfig-original which is empty and nvidia.conf
edit: after trying the mkinitcpio thing, the system will still not boot.
edit2: don’t know why nouveau is giving me grief, when I’m using the closed source driver.
Downgraded packages to testing, and everything works fine now. This can be closed
Let’s hope it gets fixed upstream before it would arrive at stable branch. Until that @philm maybe shouldn’t push it to stable.
