Unable to access internet despite Wi-Fi is connected

Hello,
As for the topic’s subject, I’m unable to access Internet despite the wi-fi icon states it’s connected.
I tried to connect to a different wi-fi, but nothing changes: still unable to navigate.
Also, this happens only when I use the Linux partition. Everything works on Windows.

is Windows completely shutdown, fast boot disabled, hibernation and hybrid sleep disabled?

Checked everything. Fast boot was enabled on Windows. I disabled it, still nothing

Are you getting an address?

ifconfig

Can you ping?

ping -c 3 google.com

Are you running a firewall?

Not at all

ping -c 3 google.com
ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution

Yes. But apparently, disabling the firewall doesn’t change anything

It could be as simple as a name server error on the side of your provider, who provides this service.

check wwhether you can ping the IP instead of the address:

ping -c 3 8.8.8.8
or
ping -c 3 1.1.1.1

If you can ping that, I’d call that a confirmation …

  • power cycle your router - maybe that helps
  • configure a name server
    like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 or …
to do that, change IP4 settings in NetworkManager from
    Automatic (DHCP)
    to
    Automatic (DHCP), Adresses only
and put in one or two name servers of your choice
    restart NetworkManager
    or disconnect/reconnect

Check any VPN settings or whether it is active when it should not be …

PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data.

— 8.8.8.8 ping statistics —
3 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 2015ms

Didn’t work. I tried to connect to connect to the hotspot, and nothing changed.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it, but it’s still as before

hotspot?

It is your router, is it not?

Some crucial information might be missing here.

With a wireless hotspot (of whatever kind) things might be quite different.
You almost certainly need to provide credentials in order to use a hotspot.

Not via NetworkManager - but via the browser …

A (previously used) VPN might get in your way.

This is not normal and looks like some kind of VPN (maybe Proton?). Get rid of it, otherwise it will always interfere.

Sorry, what I meant is that I tried to use a mobile hotspot, when I tried a different wifi to see if this fixed the problem, as I mentioned in my first message:

I restarted the router, but it wasn’t the problem.

Thanks, will try and see.

Getting rid of the VPN didn’t solve the problem. I wonder whether I missed something

… probably :sunglasses:

we know nothing about that vpn … where you got it from, how you set it up, what it did, what you might need to do to revert or change …

A different user had a similar problem.

Maybe it helps
