Hello. When I connect my Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S to Manjaro (the latest updated release with the Cinnamon desktop environment), the device is recognized and mounted, but I cannot access its contents—images, videos, documents, etc. Nemo 6.6.4 does not see the smartphone’s contents. I have installed Android File Transfer (MTP) on the system, but I cannot see all the files; many are missing, especially images. I cannot figure out the reason or which software/libraries might be missing from the system. Thanks in advance for any help.
On the phone, did you select the correct option to allow file transfer?
Two quick checks before digging deeper: is the phone unlocked at the moment you plug it in, and does the USB notification on the phone show ‘File transfer’ selected each time you reconnect? MIUI often falls back to charge-only after a reconnect, and internal storage is hidden while the device is locked. Also worth confirming the cable is a real data one and not charge-only. If folders show up once the phone is unlocked but photos are still missing, does the DCIM directory appear empty in Nemo, or not listed at all?
Check if you have the gvfs-mtp package synced
pamac search gvfs | grep Installed
To list all available gvfs modules
pamac search gvfs --no-aur
To sync a module
pamac install gvfs-mtp
Android File Transfer is a minimalist GUI - have you tried using the Cinnamon file manager (Nemo) ?
there is one other file needed android-udev
I have 3 options:
No data transfer
File transfer/Android Auto
Photo transfer (PTP)
I tried the last option.
I have doubts about whether the cable is a genuine data cable; it is the one that came with the phone. With Nemo, no folders on the phone are listed; they only appear with Android File Transfer (MTP), but I cannot see all the photos contained in the Android Gallery app.

Tired of problems like this, installed File Manager, the last option of the main menu (Access from…) starts an FTP server and I access the mobile files with FileZilla. If you are connected to the same Network never fails.
Try the option before that: File transfer/Android Auto.
You might also consider the Total Commander (app) on the phone, which I used once with some success.
However, as @linux-aarhus suggests, another file manager (on the computer side) can potentially make all the difference.
I recall that the Krusader file manager has features that make it favourable when connecting to an Android device – it’s not a basic file manager, so you will likely need to familiarise yourself with how it can best be used.
sudo pacman -S krusader
- Choose whichever option suits your environment:
qt6-multimedia-ffmpegqt6-multimedia-gstreamer
Option 1 is most likely.

I think so, how should I authorize the phone if necessary?

Usually it pops out a window asking for authorization, or it is hidden in the drop-down window
Yes, it is authorized.
Hi, Cinnamon desktop user here too, when I connect my Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 to Manjaro (fully updated), I just have to select File transfer/Android Auto on the phone and I can see everything in Nemo just fine!
Here are my gvfs pakages:
$ pamac search gvfs | grep Inst
gvfs-smb 1.60.2-4 [Installés] extra
gvfs-mtp 1.60.2-4 [Installés] extra
gvfs-gphoto2 1.60.2-4 [Installés] extra

Don’t remember having to authorize the phone, but perhaps I forgot about it in the meantime…
Anyway, if it’s working by me, that means there is a problem on your side, but I can’t see where it can be!
Is your phone OS up to date? Perhaps if it’s too outdated, that could be a reason…
It depends a bit of the android version and the filemanager. In theory, the file tranfer/android auto should be selected on the phone side, and authorisations as in adb prompt should not be needed for this operation. If that is done, i will go with another file manager on the pc as the easiest test.
Also check if cinammon has some settings regarding removable drives. Maybe that is cinnamon specific authorization, i do not now. On xfce it pops in the manager as a usb stick on the side.
The MIUI version on my Xiaomi is 14.0.11; I hadn’t considered that—my phone might be a bit outdated. The gvfs packages are the same as yours.
I don’t know about Cinnamon, but with plasma the pop up I get to mount and open doesn’t work. When I open Dolphin now I see two Moto G (my phone) in the device panel. One is from KDE Connect the other is the file mount which does open as expected.
My phone has the new MIUI, rebranded “HyperOS” (v.2.0.211.0), but I don’t think it is relevant:
- I did a quick test with the Redmi Note 8 Pro of my wife, which has a much older MIUI than yours (12.0.4), and it worked as well as mine! But with a catch…
- It worked well only with my USB cable! The one she is using is somewhat damaged, and caused a lot of troubles, including crashing Nemo!!!
So if I were you, I would do the whole troubleshooting tests:
- try with another USB cable.
- try on another USB port.
- if that doesn’t help, try on another computer. If you don’t have one, you can try that also with a live system.
For the record - Pixel with Android 16 on a xfce system - no problems, as soon as one changes the usb mode on the phone.
I hope you are up to date (which is a prerequisite to ask for support anyway) - there was some bug with usb and phones, that was however several updates ago.
Redmi is just pure insert bad words here on the software side. I simply despise it. But in this case probably OP has a bad cable as mentioned by @fsw or is missing a step.
Miui is heavily customized, there might be some extra security setting there, but i have not used it in 10 years.
