Uhd630 graphic card can't enter desktop

everything ok with my gtx1050ti,but uhd630 can’t enter desktop ,combination"ctrl+alt+F2" can enter to command line mode…
how to fix ?

That’s not to say - I have UHD 620 standalone - no problem.

Manjaro Spitfire runs on UHD 620 - I have not heard it should be a problem.

UHD620/i7-8550 CPU

UHD630/i7-8750 CPU

how to check out what’s wrong and fix?

You have asked a question with a myriad of possible answers - It is impossible to know without more info.

anything else you need?

Thank you for posting this detailed info.

I am not capable of investigating your issue - but if you have patience - I am sure a capable user will show up.

I’m using exactly UHD 630 (i7-7700HQ) and has no problem with entering desktop (in fact, I have the exact opposite case where my GTX1050 cannot enter the desktop with either bumblebee or PRIME, but it happens just recently and is being investigated).

You said:

so go there and execute: grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
we need the log when it happens, not after it (well you can actually still view 1 log before current, it should be named /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old)

It looks like you have the nivida drivers installed. You need to remove them in oder to use the Intel card on a desktop system. Use mhwd to remove the nvidia driver.

But since it is a desktop, it might be better to change the UEFI settings so that the nvidia cards are the default.

Do you get to Login screen?
What DE are you using?
Can you get to desktop from TTY with startx ?
You may need to disable Intel from BIOS and/or specify PCI ID for nvidia cards in Xorg configuration file.

no…

xfce

have not try…

what?i’m not going to switch to discrete graphic card now…i want to try uhd630…

:joy:no…nvidia driver is useful for my deep learning program…not going to remove it…

Did you set up PRIME or using bumblebee?

You need either one for being able to use both cards.
If you just have nvidia driver, then you can’t use the Intel card.

News

Bumblebee 3.2.1 has been released on 26 April 2013.

is it new enough to support uhd630 and nvidia 10series graphic card?

then you can try remove bumblebee and PRIME to solve the gtx1050 problem…:joy::joy::joy:

You need to try it. But the change is not high. Bumblebee and Prime work often on Laptops designed for it, but on a desktop you need a lot of luck.

If you insist on using both get comfortable on the command line. There is no easy way. Better decide if you want the intel or nvidia driver.

try command “startx” and tty freeze…

That’s not how a long time Linux user solves a problem. It used to work (PRIME only, bumblebee freezes), so it should still work. Probably just a minor glitch, but still needs investigation and will solve sooner or later.

Thanks for the tip! :joy:
bumblebee is not a gpu driver, it’s a utility for switching drivers on the fly, designed for powersaving on laptops.
It uses existing/current gpu drivers, not its own.

We need the errors from this, either in console or Xorg/journal.
As others said, this setup needs specific configuration in order to work. Having 2 nvidia cards is already enough for troubles
Also important is the ports used for the monitor.

[captain@captain-pc ~]$ sudo prime-select intel

is it this way to switch graphic card to uhd630??@leledumbo @xabbu @Strit

is it this way to switch graphic card to uhd630?

Depends on how you install PRIME. I use vetzki’s package which just gets solved a few minutes ago (and I can use both my UHD 630 and GTX1050 again). With the package, to switch card I use:

# prime-switch -d intel

or:

# prime-switch -d nvidia

I’m not sure where your prime-select comes from.
