TV-Browser Java and get rid of Bildschirmübertragung used by xdg-desktop-portal

Hello everyone, after reinstalling with manjaro-kde-24.0-minimal-240513-linux69.iso.

SDDM switched to Wayland and installed my programs.

All I want is
How do I get rid of this screen sharing thing “Bildschirmübertragung”
by “xdg-desktop-portal” and “xdg-desktop-portal-KDE” ?

Additional Info about Java installation only.

First installed Java22, but then I noticed that the „mediathekview“ was missing and needed Java21.

So I uninstalled Java22 and installed Java21.

Main Problem is …

TV-Browser is a nice little program (TV magazine) which requires Java.

Program runs minimized in the background.

When a program is starts, a reminder window „Erinnerungsfenster“ opens.

That you can click away and it closes.

Only after the new reinstallation of Manjaro this no longer works, because a small program always starts with it, which I had not installed myself. “xdg-desktop-portal” and “xdg-desktop-portal-kde”

He wants me to share my “screen sharing Bildschirmübertragung”.

So nothing happens when I click on Close „reminder window Erinnerungsfenster".

I can’t find any selection other than Exit Beenden “Screen Sharing Bildschirmübertragung”.

When exiting and reopening the TV browser, it starts again.

I see a small red circle dot “Screen Sharing” at the bottom right of the next to watch.

As soon as a new reminder window appears.

The TV browser window is then completely unclickable. no matter what I click, nothing happens, even on the top right of the “X” does not close the window.

XDG desktop portal cannot be uninstalled because it has plasma integration as a dependency.

How do I get rid of this screen sharing thing “xdg-desktop-portal” and “xdg-desktop-portal-KDE”?

Disable or uninstall?

I can provide missing information like inxi.

Sorry for my poor English, no practice.

Thank you and greetings

from Berlin

Tony

###################################################################

Also Java22 deinstalliert und Java21 Installiert.

Tony

Don’t know what the problem is, but one thing is sure - you should not uninstall the portals, they are important for other stuff and they cannot be responsible for that behavior…it looks more like a symptom for some other problem, and the portal is what you visually see but something else is triggering it in the background. Maybe look at the settings, or maybe entirely delete the .mediathekview hidden config and caching folder of the app to reset it’s settings.

Thank you

and how about adding some screenshots?

To make it clear what I mean?

Thanks again with greatings and so :grinning:

Good Morning all,

Here some screenshots to what I mean.

After startup of my PC
When a TV program I like starts, a reminder window „Erinnerungsfenster“ opens.
That you can click away and it closes.

But than … one or two to close Schließen.
Window Bar or Title Bar shows down right

and than the Java Windows unresponsive and even TV-Browser.

When I open (ksysguard) now systemmonitor.
and close

and after that the Java (TV-Browser)

Than I am able to open TV-Browser again
Red Painted because of only Symbolic.

but

opens or starts again
including this Windows

and no matter what I click it come again and after every restart of TV-Browser (Java).

When I click on cancel (Abbrechen)

TV-Browser work normal as it worked before New clean Install of (manjaro-kde-24.0-minimal-240513-linux69.iso).

At my Notebook, I waited till my PC was finished and followed some given tips in the older stable May 13 thread.

The updated went through.

The is also the TV-Browser and there ist functions normal and even without that Bildschirmübertragung thing.

so how please can I get rid of Bildschirmübertragung?

Thank you

Greetings
Tony

You started the topic with mediathekview and now it is tvbowser! These are different apps!
Another very important thing: tvbrowser is not in the repos. It is available in aur or as a flatpak. To say what exactly you installed is very relevant. And after update, the first thing if there is a problem with aur is to rebuild it. tvbrowser from the aur should run on java 22, so that does not make sense too.
Just as additional side notes. I still have no idea about the actual problem.

Hi Teo,
thanks for your reply and help.

Sorry my mistake.

as I wrote in my first thread.

The title say „TV-Browser Java and xdg-desktop-portal“

after reinstalling with manjaro-kde-24.0-minimal-240513-linux69.iso.

First installed Java22, …

but then I noticed

that the „mediathekview“ was missing

and needed Java21

So I uninstalled Java22 and installed Java21

This was an additional Info.

All I want is
How do I get rid of this screen sharing thing “Bildschirmübertragung”
by “xdg-desktop-portal” and “xdg-desktop-portal-KDE” ?

TV-Browser uses needs Java.
I got it from [TV-Browser](TV-Browser Download Page)
I am using the portable Version for Windows and Linux

für transportable Medien Infos + Download
Andere tvbrowser_4.2.7_bin.zip

The rest is shown in the screenshots.

Thank you
greetings
Tony

Not really linked to your issue, anyway you could use the non-free Nvidia graphics driver instead of nouveau, this should improve your graphics performance. Only one command needed:

sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300

Afterwards reboot.

I still cannot help with something specific, but i tested a little.
Firstly, i downloaded it from the site. The right download is the tar.gz one at the top, not the zip. Unpack. It contains desktop file that should work on doubleclick, it didn’t (it was missing ./ in the exec line ./tvbrowser.sh, i fixed it), It works, except the tray icon menu. Without any warning for screen sharing.
So at least on XFCE it works as it should. With java 22.

So it has to do either something with the wrong download, or java, but most probably it is Plasma or Wayland stuff, which are both not present in my case.

it’s a good recommendation to switch from wayland to x11 cause a lot of these iptv-programms rely on x11 and fail with wayland. especially because this application uses virtual displays ! wayland still fails on virtual-communication-apps.

second problem is the using of nouveau. that’s a bad decission if you’re running gpu-related stuff on nvidia with nouveau. the possibility that it doesn’t work is very high. switch to the propietary nvidia driver

It does not actually play video, so it is probably not the video driver.
The desktop portal is by the way triggered if you click to open the entry in browser. Shouldn’t be triggered from any other actions. Somehow in your case the app/java/plasma does not know what exactly to trigger and kind of turns on all the portal features…at least looks that way.
But whatever you do, do not remove the portals. They are used for many things behind the scenes so a lot of programs will start to crash.

thanks
but now wayland not boot anymore now I see a blank black screen and my mouse cursor
Only able by strg and alt F3 and startx

how to reverse it again?

Danke für die Hilfe

Ich Installiere Manjaro neu

Nur noch blank screen.

Tony

A little fast decision in my opinion. Could be mostly fixed by what is described in the first paragraph “Known issues and solutions”:

Thank you I just tried it.

in /etc/default/grub
before GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" and now GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nvidia_drm.fbdev=1"

and

in `/etc/mkinitcpio.conf`
before MODULES=() and now MODULES=(nvidia_drm)

brings no change.

It still boots into black blank screen
than strg + alt 3
login + pssword
than startplasma-wayland
and than I am able to login into the desktop.

And the main problem still persist.

So if I do a new clean install with open source driver,
without the proprietary driver because I would like to have wayland functional.
And it comes up again?

How do I get rid of this screen sharing thing “Bildschirmübertragung”
If it comes up again?

When I click “Abbrechen cancel” everything is function normal.

What process does it use, how can I uninstall it?

thank you

Tony

Have you executed

sudo mkinitcpio -P
sudo update-grub

and rebooted after changing the mentioned configs?

Good Morning,

yes I did and now agai.

no result still stays blank at start of Plasma.

But I remember that I try to uninstall after I had that black screen.

sudo pacman -R linux69-nvidia

After someone gave me the tip to run “sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300”

So When I new reinstalling with manjaro-kde-24.0-minimal-240513-linux69.iso.

Should I Install with Open source or proprietary drivers?
When I change to Wayland and reboot?

When I reinstall and tell the Installer that I want a seperate /home partition.
And leave it unformated.
Will the System recognize as my /home and all will be as it was before Install?

Thanks
Tony

PS
should I open a new questions for

So When I new reinstalling with manjaro-kde-24.0-minimal-240513-linux69.iso or newer ISO.

When I reinstall and tell the Installer that I want a seperate /home partition.
And leave it unformated.
Will the System recognize as my /home and all will be as it was before Install?

Thanks
Tony

You did not share your current partition layout.

If you already have a separate /home partition. then you can use the manual installation/partitioning and tell the installer about your partition and that you want to use it as /home in the new install
and(!) that it should not be touched or, god forbid, reformatted.

But I would not trust any installer not to fail at this - nor would I trust myself to not make an error or to not forget to check some box.

If you do not yet have a separate partition for /home, then no - this won’t be possible.

I’d make a backup of /home
and then install and afterward restore the contents of /home from the backup.

You need a backup in any case (IMO).
